What a pain in the a**e are Orange "Customer Support" and "Technical Support"! Most of them are robotic idiots, with no interest whatsoever in helping customers.
Anyway, to come to the point of my posting: it is claimed by Orange that their Livebox is "FREE" - take a look at this page, and you'll see it clearly there at the top, in BOLD text:
However, folks, look further down the page, and you'll see (in much smaller print) that the monthly broadband rental includes a charge of £2.08 for the Livebox:
"There's a 12 month contract and existing line rental is still payable. Orange Broadband is subject to availability, compatibility and survey. Our fastest download speed is up to 8Meg. If your line won't support our fastest speed, we'll give you the best available. Price includes £2.08 for Livebox hire paid to Orange Broadband PO Box 486, Rotherham, S63 5ZX."
So the Livebox is NOT "FREE"!
Please join me in writing to your local Trading Standards Department, and also to http://www.ispa.org.uk/ about this LIE. Let's bombard them with some c**p in return for what they give us on the telephone.
More than a month on from the installation of my Livebox, and still the "Phone over ADSL" service is not active, despite probably ten quids'-worth of phone calls to their mostly moronic staff, plus countless, fruitless e-mails to them.
USELESS SUPPORT!
Happy New Year to all readers, and thanks to the people running this great website, for a great service.
I may beable to help you with one problem (but then, maybe not, too). If the "(dis)Member Centre" says your VoIP is active, try a different filter.
3 hours of calls to Tech (no) support and I figured that out for myself.
Having said that, I went and bought a new router and dumped the Orange VoIP a fortnight later. Why, because (3 months) later I dumped Orange completely.

Hi D-Dan,
Thanks for the offer of help concerning the filter, but unfortunately, the VoIP thing has failed to be activated. Everyone I have spoken to at Orange has said there is a mis-match between the Livebox Serial Number and its MAC Code. They keep telling me the problem is being escalated to a higher level of "help" in their dubious system, but nothing ever happens, grrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr. They are pretty well all a bunch of morons. I've had enough, and in a short while, I'll be sending them an overland letter to threaten them with OFCOM and/or http://www.ispa.org.uk if they don't fix this within a fortnight of receipt of my letter - and I'll insist on appropriate compensation for the failure to provide promised telephone service, and for the exorbitant cost of telephone calls to their call centres.
That's all. Thanks again, Dan. Good on you, matey, for dumping Orange, though, of course, we are small fry in their big set-up. Take care.

I had a similar problem a while ago. On your PC open a command prompt:
Start>Run>cmd
In the window type arp -a and it will give you a list of MAC addresses. Check to see if one of them matches your LiveBox label. Mine was wrong as the last few digits were 00. It took £8 of calls to 'Technical' Support before they would send me a new Box, which silved the problem.
Not a problem anymore as I have exceeded my 'unlimited' package and will be disconnected soon!!!

I think its down to how you view the wording. They are supplying the Livebox free but there is a monthly hire charge for its use built into your monthly broadband subscription. Having looked at their T&C's I do not think their is any mis-representation or mis-leading info. They have been quite upfront in explaining what the charge is for and its not for the supply of what appears to be the free livebox. I don't think Trading Standards or for that matter any regulatory body including ASA will be much interested in saying otherwise.
