Just read a tech guy on the forum saying the livebox gives up when switched off during an upgrade, so presumably it cannot be switched off at the mains unless you want to risk losing connectivity.
We regularly switched ours off over the first few months of having it with no problems it must be said, but after uprading to 8 meg and having it unconnected possibly at the time of the upgrade, we got "link down" and no internet connectivity afterwards. Also getting the "ppp/synchronisation in progress" messages every 20 or 30 seconds.
Went back to 2meg since then (with livebox connected all the time) and it is back working again, just wondered if the 8meg upgrade would have worked had we got it plugged in or whether other people were still getting the dropouts described above nevertheless.
It's often advised to leave it on all the time but all you have to make sure of is when turning it off if the lights are doing something "different" then just leave it to settle first.
The box being on or off for the 8 meg upgrade shouldn't have made much difference with the inital connection afterwards. More likely something, possibly in the setup, causing it as the upto 8 meg system is a lot more sensitive to this sort of stuff.
