I found this forum after having problems connecting my livebox wirelessly, and discovered i was not alone.
After reading through all the helpful and informative posts,i was able to make a connection to my desktop pc using WEP security only. No security worked perfectly, but i could not get a connection with WPA only.
All is well with WEP only, receiving an excellent signal strength....until i reboot. When this is done there is a very weak/no signal. I have read another user having this exact same problem.
I can re-establish a connection by viewing available wireless connections and re-inputting in the WEP key(although the box still contains a series of dots as if the key is still there). Then after a few seconds i have an excellent signal again.
Apparently my pc is not remembering the settings when it is rebooted....why should this be? There must be a solution to this??
Curiously....if i change the settings to no security then reboot.....i always have an excellent signal every time.
I have considered using no security permanently, because this is the only way that there are no problems....but this may not possibly be a good idea?
Im sure the solution to this will be relatively simple(hopefully),but its finding that solution that is the problem.
Don't think this is to do directly with security - when you reboot you should be able to see all wireless networks within range and their "normal" strengths, even your next door neighbours(I can see 4 networks currently at varying strengths altho I can't connect cos they are all secured to varying degrees)
Are you using the "proprietary" s/ware that came with your PC adapter? If so, is your version of Windows actually trying to use this s/ware to connect?I have had problems on an "older" PC running XP Pro - every time it boots I have to start up the s/ware and tell it to connect - I don't have to re input the key - it then takes a few seconds to obtain an IP address from the Livebox.
Sounds like it isn't obtaining the IP address when you boot. Have had this prob using Windows to control the connection.

Yes,i am using the software that came with the card(Sweex),and i am also using XP Pro.
Still have to manually connect after rebooting..its very annoying.
I still think it is strange that i have an excellent connection, every time after rebooting, when the livebox is set to no security.
