Have had (and still have) the free Webspace formerly with Freeserve, however since the FTP problems with Uploading to the site thought it might be prudent to register with a current site with Orange so set up and uploaded my Website to the FTP My Site which is supposedly for Orange customers and surprise, surprise there is a great big Orange logo as well as advertising banners right at the top of the pages.
Orange have managed to insert a file "top.html" into my carefully written site and use it as a revenue generator.
Have tried deleting and re-writing the file but still gives an Orange Banner at the top of the page - anybody any ideas how to disable this intrusion - If not I would however to use Yahoo Tripod as an alternative if I have to advertise on my site ....

Free hosting services usually rely on such banners to enerate teh revenue. I woul dcheck the terms and conditions as Orange could very well remove your hosting if you remove their banner.
I know for all my free hosting one of the conditions is that I get to put a banner on that clients site, otherwise why would ppl do free hosting.....

Any ideas anybody ????
Put your curser at the top of your index.html page and hit return approx 10 times. This will take the top of your page (where all your stuff starts) further down. Then place an invisble anchor just above the top of where your page starts (your stuff).
Now add your anchor name to the last part of your url or if you have a domain name that points to your index page just add the anchor name to the end of that.
When the page loads it will load to the anchor point thereby placing the top ads out of site.
If you want a small web page or blog then try Freewebs.com
Their ads are in the form of a small nav bar at the top which is hardly noticeable. You can only upload one file at a time but once you've got your stuff on like images etc the the odd page now and again is no problem.
Hope this helps

Orange Fightback
I have spent hours since installing a Livebox trying to upload to my website (wmcc.cc). Fnally, I unticked the Passive check box (Advanced)in Ipswitch WSFTP-LE and closed the Livebox Firewall. All is well again. Why cannot Orange help - all they said was "There is a server problem".?
Happy New year
