How many of you signed up to the upto 8mb broadband service provided by wanadoo and are still waiting for 8mb? Wanadoo advertised extensively the upto 8mb service with billboards in Swindon even though at the time only big cities like london and bristol could get it. We was told though that soon as our line could support 8mb we would automatically be upgraded without having to do a thing. Since Orange have taken over nothing has happened, even though our exchange was upgraded over 8 months ago. My question is why aren't Orange at the very least showing an interest in upgrading people without 1st offering a 10quid upgrade and then changing that to 'it is free, subject to a new12 month contract'. Ive noticed Orange have a bad tendency to change packages for the worst without notice. This happened when thay suddenly capped my unlimited wap on my phone to a useless 4mb without informing me thus leaving me with a huge bill.
hmmm i remember seeing that also up here in glasgow up to 8 mb broadband for 19.99 p/mth i jumped from BT after 3 years but could only get 2mb because thats what my exchange could handle at the moment and would be upgraded as the exchange speed went up ,BT already upgraded my speed without asking as it was ,then it changed to Orange and i find out to get 8mb i need to upgrade and sign a new 12 month contract but im to scared to incase i cant get that speed
You are paying for an upto 8meg service, orange have got no right in cutting you back to 2mb, i wouldn't agree to a new 12 month contract when they go back on their word.
I was a customer with Freeserve,Wanadoo, and Orange and went Orange`less in October for the same reasons everyone else has at the moment with the supposedly free upgrade.
Wanadoo had a dedicated site for the areas being upgraded to free ADSL 8Mb but since the Orange takeover this site has conveniently disappeared.
My exchange had been upgraded to ADSL 8MB in March this year. I phoned to cancell my account with them for this reason. I told them they had been ripping me off for the past 6 month and was a long term customer so, they offered me a free upgrade to 8mb and waved the 12 month contract.
Stand by your guns and, dont give in. Demand your free upgrade with no 12 month contract.
I told them I didn`t want to be with them anymore and cancelled my contract.
Being a Londoner, I got the upgrade free!
I didn't sign up for it, ask for it or even want it... tough! they just did it anyway...
Orange's excuse of a 8Mbs service resulted in no broadband for 2 months, £30 wasted talking to their incompetant 'help lines', 3 complaints to ISPA, and eventually leaving to go to another ISP.
It now seems there is a change of tack by Orange in an attempt to keep customers (and cash flowing in) regardless of their ability to supply any kind of service.
If you ask for the 8Mbs upgrade, and are tied into another 12 months, they can do what they like with the excuse...well you ordered it! and if you want to leave having disovered how rubbish the service is....oh you can't! niiiice!
See if any other ISP (and I mean ANY) can supply 8Mbs now, and switch.
I hear Talk Talk are pretty bad too...
My experience as a Freeserve/Wanadoo/Orange long-term customer was similar - originally on a 1mb connection as part of the 'fastest line speed' freeserve package, the available speeds on the Orange customer site fluctuated between 'unavailable', 512kb, 3mb and 8mb, often on the same day. After upgrades to the local exchange it settled on 8mb and stayed there - I went to upgrade, and for the sake of a quiet life(!) went through with it even after seeing that each upgrade to my 'automatically get the fastest line speed' package needs to be requested by me and also restarts the 12 month contract - I'd at least been happy until that point that I could quit at any point.
After putting in the upgrade request, on the website and seeing it was in progress, I heard nothing more, and after four days the available speeds section of the site reverted to reporting me at 1mb as though nothing had happened. I rang up, and was told the order had been cancelled (without any notification to me, of course) because 'my modem wouldn't support it'. I asked them how they knew that, as I was using my own ADSL2/ADSL2+ router. They told me the speedtouch 330 only supports a 2mb connection. I informed them I wasn't using it any more, and asked if they could change any info at their end to reflect this and allow me the upgrade. The guy finally let on that the 'fastest line speed possible' package is capped at 2mb.
I've ended up on the new Orange unlimited max 8mb thing with a livebox...although of course after 7 weeks my line is still set to an IP profile of 2000kbps despite synching at 8128 for the entire time. So glad I jumped through hoops to get through the 2mb limitation!
