I have just lost my connection. ( I live in the Swindon area )
I switch off everything at night, and when I switched on the next night - orange not green light ( Speedtouch 510 modem )
Now 48hrs, and looks ike I'm going to have see what the help is like (!).
Now, question.
Can I dialup through the modem if I create a dialup connection on my XP system. I don't have a phone connection in the back of my PC, so not sure how all this would work.
Well, as I've started this, I'll keep updating it ( not for too long I hope )
OK, So they said, we'll do a line test - leave everything switched on for 24 hours ( Huh !! ) so they can check the line, and then call them back.
Called them back, and they said they will get an engineer to check the line at the exchange, and I quote "we'll have you working in 24hrs"
I'm logging all calls to their helpdesk. ( 3 so far )
As a help - if you don't know their name, ask for it, then say Hi name, this is the 1st/2nd time I've called etc - do it in a nice voice.
Also, keeping a note of the options on the phone saves time.
And in this great computer age - write everything down using good old pen & paper
AFIK line tests shouldnt take 5 days. When I had a problem with my normal BT line it took them about 10 minutes, and normally they say to me call back in a couple of hours. I suggest calling them back and asking what is going on
I suggest calling them back and asking what is going on
LOL - I've been calling them every couple of days for nearly 2 months. The ISPA are looking into now. I've heard every escuse under the sun for my non-connection.
Maybe this is my crazy mind, but would it be worth it to call the BT fault check thingy directly and ask them to run a line test? I did that once and it took 10 minutes
Dial 151 to get a status on your line ( automatic message )
Message stated that there is a problem on my number.
Lots of trying different options, finally get through to a person in what sounds like a foriegn place.
They did a line test then & there , and ....
"there is a network problem in your area, it will be fixed by Friday"
Note, not a line problem, but a network problem, and fixed by Friday !!
Had a VERY nice BT Engineer come round and check my line out - found a minor problem, fixed it, even gave me an old modem to check my line - but it didn't work - ( the modem that is )
So, still no connection, support are getting BT to check the exchange.
Also, having more time at the weekend to check everything out - including using a different modem, I am recieving LCP down on the modem logs.
This I believe, from looking around, is a connection problem between the exchange and my modem.
- would I be right in thinking that it is an exchange problem, and not a modem one.
10 calls now, BT engineer has checked the exchange, now says it isa problem between W and myself.
weird that I have to call during the day, so they can call BT while I'm on the phone - they won't follow up... nice service.
Trying to get to their tech service now - been put through to customer accounts, and 'you are in a queue' until I had to hang up - I have a day job......
Modems give an 'LCP down' message, which I thought was an exchange problem - no point trying to tell that to support, as they just ahve a script in front of them - hopefully if I get tech support, they might have some idea.
Well, another week, and upto call 20 to the 'Technical' support
Latest ? well according to BT, there has been a major outage in the exchange, and Wanadoo are awaiting an update - 48hrs, and still nothing.
The fact that my problem happened 29 days ago is irrelevant, of course
come back next week, for another update
( could this be used for a weekly soap programme ??? )
Unbelievable - now they want to send me a modem - a speedtouch one - anyone know what this is/where I can find info about it ?
This is after someone who couldn't read the notes on my call, ( i gave up and redialed in to get someone reasonably sensible ).
Got a supervisor -who said they will send me a modem - no real explanation why it has taken 33 days to think of this - putting me off even longer is the reason I guess - and then as I happen to work - I won't Be Broadband when the modem arrives, so I'll need to phone some number to get it sent to another address - I can't get it sent to another address, even though I have passed their security questions....
Can anybody suggest another ISP I can take my business to ?
