Forgive me if this has been asked before but I've only just joined this forum. I've been with Freeserve, then Wannadoo and now Orange for 6 years, in May of this year I was given a free upgrade to ADSL MAX, which turned out to be 1Mbps speed.
For the past 6-8 weeks the connection speed has varied from as low as 350Kbps to the mighty speed of .9Mbps. It's averaged out at about 600Kbps over this time.
I've phoned Orange support about 5 times and get a lot of waffle, but the only thing that I seem to get is "why don't you upgrade to a faster speed" the problem is I don't want a new 12 month contract with them.
I'm getting to the stage where I don't know enough to argue the tech side of things, I've had the phone lines inside the house checked, new filters fitted and I am now stuck at what more I can do to get a steady connection.
Almost all the stats needed, would be helpful to have the upstream and downstream speeds as well from those pages.
First of all, you're not on ADSL Max. Orange only started doing Max from October, sounds more like you're on either 1 or 2 meg fixed speed.
The attainable of 5.5meg and BT checker of 3 meg suggest you're on high 1 meg to mid 2 meg range. Noise margin of 23 with attainable well below the maximum sync of 8meg reinforce this to show you're not on Max and are on 1 or 2 meg currently.
If you're actually currently on 1 meg then there doesn't seem too much of a problem except maybe some congestion at times causing the lower 350kbps readings, if it's supposed to be 2 meg then there may well be a problem somewhere. Otherwise Orange are pretty much right, if you want faster you can upgrade at the cost of a new 12 month contract or, if you are on 2 meg then it should be upgraded within about 4 1/2 months to ADSL Max.
