Bit of a long rambling post so i'm sorry, and it is 4.10 am and i have had rather a lot of wine, only bothering to post coz i feel i am being cheated and i hate that.
Well have been getting the same probelm on and off now for the past few months, about 3 or 4 nights a week at around 5-6pm the latency of the server i play on changes from 30 ms to over 100 ms (the server is only 25 miles away!)and doesn't start to come down again 'till after 10pm at night, this is no good for me as the server has a ping limit of 100 ms and i get kicked (previously my download speeds had dropped from 2.9 Mbps to anywhere as low as 1.5 Mbps at peak times, strangely my download speeds are always maxed at 2.9 Mbps now though the ping i get from the same server varies widely throughout the day).I rang the customer help-line to find out what was going on, firstly i listened to the automated service announcements which say that Orange appologise for any deteriation in service, this is caused by the amount of people taking up the great deals that Orange were providing for new customers. Now as an existing customer paying a lot more than these new customers i was rather angry that the people joining the service later on for discounted deals were the reason the service i had originally signed up for was not performing up to scratch. The first response from customer service was, ok Mr ..... i'll just check your details, oh sorry your under contract there's is nothing we can do (or words to similar effect ). I was frickin fuming at this point, tried to get the service advisor to admit that i was basically being screwed because i was under contract and that my service was being affected by people being offered cheap deals when Orange plainly do not have the current capacity to deal with the new customers they are advertising for and gaining. Anyhoos, after much ranting on my part i was finally offered a months free connection. I asked if i accepted this would it affect my rights to cancel my contract if the problem persisted, they would not give an answer to this, so i said i wanted to cancel my contract, they told me it would cost £55 (or £59 can't remember which) to cancel, i told them no chance. I asked for the number i could ring to speak to somebody higher up, all they told me is to speak to the line manager or the escalation department. Tried today to get through, got fobbed off a couple of times. gonna try again tomorrow. Beginning to think i should just take the £60 hit to get rid of these numpties now before the whole bloody Orange network goes to teh shizzle and i don't have a connection at all.
the probelm did persist, i was getting s**t latency whenever i connected in peak times, phoned up customer support to request my M.A.C number, was told i couldn't get a MAC number unless i went through cancellation department and agreed to pay the cancellation fee. Welli told them that i wasn't willing to pay the cancellation fee at this paticular moment in time, all i wanted was my MAC number, got to speak to some very aggresive people after this, always trying to trick me in to saying something that would have been detrimental to my case if it ever came to court. Anyways, i did get "Matthew the very arrogant self-righteous **** to agree to send me my MAC number, and he asiad he would send it by post (will let you know if it ever happens, he sounded like one of the typical lying barstewards who you normally speak to at Orange
