My 1st orangeproblem post, I'm sure there will be many more.
I've had 8mbit service since March in Notts area but only had 1mbit speed. I was prepared for the wait for upgrading to 8mbit but neither BT or Wanadoo had any clue when it would be (BT just refused to tell me).
In the meantime the wife has now gone for a £30 mobile deal to enable the £5 8mbit broadband deal. At the moment I can't think of a cheaper way of getting both for this price (please let me know if you think otherwise).
Speed has gone down to 550kbits in the last week so after investigating on the internet I found that my exchange (long Eaton) was capable of ADSL max & up to 4mbit.
Rang Orange & played tech suppt/cust service tennis as per usual and was told that I had to REQUEST the upgrade! I don't understand why I had to ask for it again when I had ordered it in March. Also they are saying that the contract will renew for another 12 months which I'm not prepared to do.
Orange website says that it could take up to 10 days, Tech suppt says it will be running in 4 days without any problems.
Colleague at work said he had problems with LLU, etc and demanded to be taken off it. Is LLU compulsory to get a decent BB speed or am I destined for troubles similar to other people on this forum?
If it were not for the Mobile/BB deal I probably would have left already due to their horrendous tech support. I have nothing against foreigners but I expect to have a normal conversation with someone when asking for help. I have to provide tech support myself and customers always say how much they prefer a proper english speaking person on the telephone.
I strongly advise you to steer clear of Orange for broadband.
This site reflects a tiny fraction of the problems that the lying, robbing, incompetent, non-caring excuse for an ISP create.
It's 'free' but Orange's broadband service is beyond a joke.
I've had 1st hand experience of them. Freeserve and Wanadoo were faultless but these clowns have destroyed things.
Do yourself a favour and get broadband from a real ISP like Idnet.net who I'm with. They really are FANTASTIC. I've been with them for 5 months now and ver had any downtime or problems.
The service is fast and 100% reliable.
Staff are friendly, knowledgable, ENGLISH SPEAKING people who care and want to help. They also don't use call centres with foreigners who speak 50% English.
They also do 1 month contracts so you're not tied to them.
Don't give Orange the chance to make your life a misery as they just don;t care.
I am on the same package and upgraded to 8mb through the member centre a week or so ago. Took 3-4 days til the speed change happened and had very random speeds. This is normal for the first 10 days or so. I average around 5.5 to 6.2mb speed, which isn't bad.
I run a speed check on DSL Zone and compared to alot of isps offering 8mb the speed from Orange compares very well with some below 2mb. You may lose your connection for a bit whilst the speed is being upgraded. i'm in Notts too and exchange supports 8mb
Orange made me believe my conection was running at 4mb but they didnt fool me as it was at about 600kb and i had doubts to wether it could be my line at fault but i'm begining to wonder if they told me a big fat lie, wouldnt suprise me. Yeah get a proper isp, unlucky if you're stuck in a contract with them but seriously Orange are a joke...i'm glad i dont even have a mobile phone from them as well.

glenhill you seem to think that because you get the speeds you do everyone else does you are very lucky spare a thought for the people that dont and are paying for a crap service and before you say anything NO im no longer with Orange thank f**k and YES they still owe me money and when you start having problems (which i hope u never do) dont come posting on here for sympathy. The amount of people i see saying the same as you and low and behold down the line they are having problems and Orange aint in the slightest bit interested but still taking your money you have been warned.

stevelondon - Are you saying this is an exclusive forum. i signed up as I use Orange and have had problems in the past with getting the talk service activated.
I was purely relaying my experience with the speed upgrade. Any problem with that? I didn't realise posts always had to be bad!!
