It seems that with the increased speed your house telephone wiring may be the cause of the problem. It certainly was in my case. What worked ok for up to 2mb would not allow the 8mb connection to work correctly
I removed the ringer connection (Orange and white wire) and the white and Orange wire that BT always connect even though it has no use to all my extensions.
I now have a download speed of greater than 2mb.

I haven't read the 2 pages in full but I do remember when the author of the second one was asking for advice on ADSLguide.
Just wanted to point out that the bell wire won't always be Orange/white. The key point is to only leave 2 and 5 connected.

According to a recent post by Elhana, Orange don't offer support on anything like this (bell wire removal/test socket/ADSL faceplates).
It's crazy because trying from the test socket is the key diagnostic step for no/intermittent synch problems. If an Openreach engineer finds no fault at the test socket then Orange are charged for the visit.

Problem is the potential for someone to do something wrong, be charged by BT to fix it then blame Orange for telling them to do it in the first place.
Technically it's the customer's responsibility to have good wiring in their homes and at least for now, you never know it may change in the future, they just won't suggest taking things apart like that. Although they won't suggest it if you check from the test socket then they should note it down in the details as it's a great way to show it's not the wiring and that most likely a line fault is the cause.
BTW don't mis-understand the term line test or fault. It simply means an issue that they can't resolve there and needs to be sent to engineers, be it sat in an office changing values in a computer system all the way to the ones to dig up the road/climb a pole to fix a problem cable or joint somewhere.

I have found the same problem this week. I was upgraded from a 'perfect' 1MBps line to 2 Mbps and there was almost no connection or speed. I thought initially it must be Orange/BT as I had changed nothing. The problem remained when I connected to the front faceplate of the NTE5 master socket. When I removed the faceplate and connected directly the problem completely disappeared and I now have 'perfect' 2 Mbps. My house telephone wiring was the problem and I have placed a filter between the true Master Socket and the faceplate housewiring connector. If you're having a serious upgrade problem, do try this as it could be the solution. I've just ordered a replacement faceplate panel with an embedded filter and RJ11 socket to make it neat
