Broadband is now the predominant UK internet connection with ISPs offering between 0,5 & 24 Mb. The majority of UK citizens have internet access at home, others via public libraries etc. Currently MaxADSL & LLU 'up to 8Mb' predominates alongside cable
The Govt belief broadband is a major factor in the UK economy
So why is the service so poor?
OfCom should require ISPs to provide tel and email tech, complaints & cust service support. 0870 lines should be replaced with geographic numbers with no financial benefit to the ISP
The ISP should be required to provide a clear escalation route for complaints via a named CS Director to an Independant Ofcom Internet Ombudsman if a complaint is not resolved within 28 days
OfCom should review ISP contracts for unfair terms, disconnection for more than 14 days or problem unresolved after 28 days is breach of contract by ISP. A domestic customer prob uses Internet banking so can suffer financial loss if Service n/a
BT should be responsible for upgrading house-exchange cabling if receiving line rental. Cable companies should be required to ensure all subscribers on a particular enabled exchange have access thus providing competition to BT
