The Orange livebox wep number is so simply enormous I can't get it entered into my PDA before I lose the screen, and it is impossible to remember. Does anyone know if one can switch the Orange provided wep number to an shorter and easier to remember number?

You can change it but I don't believe you can shorten it.

On your pc go through the configure livebox icon and click the link. Username and password are by default both "admin", ok it then go into security and wireless connection. You can now change the WEP key. Just remember if any other devices are using wireless they'll have to update to the new key as well.

access config pages 192,168.1.1

configuration -> advanced -> wireless connecition -> voila connected

Yes and then anyone near your house that is close enough to pick up your wireless connect can log on and use your broadband.

That is why the WEP is there so only you with the WEP key can use it.........

The fact that you can also change pairing time to 1 minute or leave it at 10

as soon as the 10 or 1 minute runs out you have to physically press the 1 button before anyone can access the router.

Totally agree, no security is just stupid and asking for trouble. That and as the traffic in not encrypted what you're viewing, watching or sending can be just picked up out of the air.

Personally I'd never use a wifi connection for my own network that wasn't at least WPA security or prefrably WPA2, may even look into if I can get a free radius server program if I ever got anymore wifi systems.
