Since the New Year, I have been experiencing frequent problems with the wireless connection from my laptop to the Livebox but I seem to have noticed a pattern since the past 3 weeks:
At least once a fortnight, or weekly recently, when I logon in the evening after work, my laptop won’t connect to the Livebox. I can view available wireless networks but all attempts to connect time out.
I then connect my laptop directly to the Livebox using an Ethernet cable and I get a successful connection (Wireless remains down)
I then switch over to my Windows ‘administrator’ account on my laptop (I normally logon thru a ‘limited’ account) and notice the little yellow shield from Microsoft in my system tray warning me that I have got ‘updates’ waiting to be downloaded/installed.
Once I have downloaded/installed the MS updates through the Ethernet connection and rebooted my laptop, the wireless connection re-establishes itself and I can logon as normal. However, the connection remains flaky for the rest of the evening until the following day when all suddenly becomes OK again.
Please, please can anybody offer any guidance because I have wasted so much time on this? I don’t understand why these updates should affect the wireless connection (It is not a coincidence). I suppose I could turn off the updates and also try logging on permanently as an administrator but then I shouldn’t have to. Other updates e.g. anti-virus don’t have the same affect.
In case anybody should experience the same problem as me here is a copy of the response I have just received from Orange:
<<All I can recommend is that updates should be disabled on the limited account, and you should check the admin account for updates regularly. This is a known issue, albeit rare, and we don't have any other workarounds at present.>>
