Hi I have a Belkin ADSL Modem with Wireless-G Router and noticed the internet light was out this morning and because of this couldn't get connected to the internet. The only way I managed to get it working again was to connect my Livebox up get it running on the internet then swap back to the Belkin and all is well.
I wonder if anyone has had this problem and if there is a simpler way of getting the belkin up and running again without having to get my Livebox hooked up
Cheers
Could of been a drop out. Sometimes routers don't agree with the way the connection drops and need to be restarted to pick it back up again. I presume it's for really short breaks, it goes and cames back so quick it tricks the router. Did you try just turning it off and on first?
I had tried everything with the router, loading backup settings, default settings, factory reset, leaving it off for a while and unplugging the telephone plug. It was only after connecting the Livebox in it's place and getting my internet connection back did the Belkin work when i plugged it back.
When you disconnect the livebox sync will be lost and the belkin will have to re-establish the connection, pretty much the same situation as if it was trying to connect in the first place. Sounds like a fault with it if the livebox or other modems work normally.
I get the feeling that the Orange Livebox has some sort of handshaking with the server that the Belkin doesn't do.
Well it does, but only once it's connected, so it can turn on the talk and any of additional services. The actual connection itself is just a normal ADSL router connection so there really shouldn't be any difference between the two. That and using other routers is fairly normal and they don't do anything to stop or prevent their use.
