Nice site you have here. Just thought I'd add my tale of Wanadoo woe...
Upgraded to 4.5meg on the 7th March (Failsworth exchange) and it's all gone to pot since. Before that day I praised Wanadoo and recommended them to everyone I knew, after around 4/5 years of great uninterrupted internet service.
Though I'm not in the (considerably worse off) boat of customers who's broadband connections have simply disappeared from existence, I do fall into what seems to be the sizeable portion of people experiencing disconnection problems.
As with most people who have this problem I can usually get a relatively steady connection during the day (if you can call 1 or 2 DCs an hour ‘steady’), but once it hits evening hours everything goes tits up (get DCd once every 5 minutes at least). I’m starting to think more and more that this is in some way related to the fact that my router’s SNR drops to less than 5db in the evenings (I’m told it should be at least 10 to ensure a steady connection) but the wonderful folks at Wanadoo don’t seem to want to hear it, or for the that matter even understand it. Previous suggestions of reducing my sync speed to around the 3meg mark (to hopefully boost the SNR) have fallen on deaf ears.
Instead I’ve been going round in endless circles through their checklists (is everything plugged in? are you using microfilters? Are there aliens living in your router?) with no progress. I've been told on several occasions that the problem would be solved within 48 hours and I'd be called back, but alas no calls ever came.
The most fun I’ve had so far was yesterday, where I got put through to a guy in India, who told me that customer services had a note on my account and that I should speak to them before hanging up on me. So I ring back and select the customer service option, who tell me they don’t have a clue what the other guy was talking about, and that I should ring tech support back.
Anyway, after one more call to tech support I’ve finally got to the stage where they’re offering to do a line test, though apparently that can only be authorised by the account holder (who’s currently on holiday in Spain).
I’ll be sure to keep you updated on my plight, and think it’s worth pointing out that of the 4 people I know who have Wanadoo on the same exchange as me, all of them are having problems.
Yup this is/was my EXACT same problem after upgrading to 8mb. In the day time it was fine. As soon as it hit around 8pm everything went **** ups. It would disconnect after every 5 minutes and then redial itself again. Ive just downloaded the new driver as suggested in a previous post, so lets hope things change.
