I've been thru a few of the hoops that most of the others have here. A rock solid 2MB connection transformed to a non-existant 8MB for about two weeks, until I was told I had a 1 in a 1000 problem of the BT Broadband server not synchronising to the Wanadoo broadband server. Getting that far involved multiple calls to Middlesboro and India, with my faith in W'doos systems being eroded.
Now I have a system that synchs at about 8.1MB but loses connection 3 or 4 times within a coule of minutes, though will then go for an hour or so without a problem. Every so often though the synch speed will drop to about 6.4 and I've noticed that my Receive Margin goes up to about 12 or 13 (Receive atten about 25) fom a previous receive margin of about 6 or 7.
So the big question - is there anything I can do to force a lower connection speed - I'm using a Thomson Speedtouch 330?
Good luck with your site - it certainly reflects the frustration I felt trying to get any any consistent explanation for the problems I faced.

I don't know if it is possible to force a lower sync speed from your modem but if you asked Wanadoo to regrade you to about 5.5 meg (and they actually did) you should get a stable connection.
This problem is part of the way rate adaptive ADSL works, it will sync at the fastest speed possible on connection, this speed might not be sustainable due to external factors between customer and exchange and a reconnection is forced due to the change in line conditions
I've got the same disconnection problems and have been through all the same kind of stuff with tech support and cust services.
I got to the point of asking them to downgrade my speed and the guy at tech support said that was NOT possible - the only way to do that was to cancel my current package and choose the basic package (with the usage cap which is no good to me as I play a lot of online games).
Am I wrong - has anyone else had any luck at downgrading their speed - I'm on at 6.5 (disconnects constantly) and was on 2.2 (rock solid).
you can't force a slower speed from your side, they have to do it from theirs, which was impossible when I was in employment.. and before LLU went "Mainstream" so to speak..
I'm not sure what the policy is now for LLU Speed change request.. Ask Tech for it.. or Escellations

Hi chilled and others
From my experience over the last 9weeks I have constantly been told that Wanadoo will NOT downgrade the speed... Even after numerous requests to numerous agents.
The 2Mb connection was excellent... I had no quibbles with that whatsoever.
However, as you may have read, Wanadoo attempted to upgrade me to 8Mb and I got, exactly, 0Mb. Not even a single connection in over 9weeks.
The reason they won't downgrade you could well be cause of them putting you on the LLU system and not having a way to actually force lower speeds..
Worst comes to worst, take it to trading standards if they refuse to deal with it after 3 line tests, as it's now on their hardware, not BT's problem
