Before installing ANY software on your computer, we recommend that you research the software first!
Although the software mentioned in this post claims to have numerous awards, we could not find an award that we had heard of!
Beware! If you are unsure, do not install!
I absolutely agree with the idea of caution when installing software that has been downloaded from the 'Net. I had heard of some of the accreditations such as Tucows and CNET. I was able to follow the links from the Tweakmaster site to confirm that those accreditations were genuine and that was what persuaded me that it should be OK. Having said that, please make your own decision - I would hate to be responsible for advising anyone to download something damaging - I just wanted to explain my logic in deciding to use it.
One thing about the software is that until it is registered, it will pop up a registration reminder on a regular basis. If you uninstall the product to get rid of the reminders, it will undo the tweaks (which I guess is fair enough).
There is a "register for free" link on the Tweakmaster web site. It requires you to sign-up with one of several commercial partners. I am in the process of trying that at the moment and I will let you know how I get on.

I have completed the free registration process. One of the commercial partners is e-bay and that's the one I chose. You have to create a new e-bay account and for the registration to be completed you must bid on an item or complete a Buy it Now. I found an item with no delivery charge that I could be £0.06p for. With any luck I will be out-bid by the end of the auction in 4 days time. I have received the registration code for the product, so even if I am not out-bid, it looks like I have registered the product for that price.
So far I can't see any downside.
And just in case anyone is wondering, I have no relationship at all with the creators of Tweakmaster, I am just grateful to have found a product which solved a problem that was driving me nuts.
My Orange broadband connection is to the Seaton Delaval exchange. On the 13 December my connection went off altogether. It came back up on the 17th January. I was able to connect to web pages using my speedtouch modem but when I tried my wireless router I could only connect to the odd few. Before my connection went down I could access all web pages with no problem. I can only assume that Orange have upgraded or repaired their hardware at the Seaton Delaval exchange. Anyway to get your router working you need to change your MTU value on the router and PC from 1500 to 1482. To change it on your PC use a program called Dr TCP which is freely downloadable from the web. Hope this helps.
Like Tralf's mother, I am having a similar problem with an Orange 512KB connection in Cardiff. I'm using a MAC - does anyone know of a similar solution to Tweakmaster for OS X?
This thread has been very useful. I've had similar problems to the original poster, and the clue about being able to access Google and Newcastle airport helped me sort things out. I was able to check that mine was the same problem.
I wonder why those sites are accessible?
I have downloaded Tweakmaster, and optimised, and can now access most sites.
I still have a problem, in that I cannot access Hotmail, my internet banking, my work intranet; i.e. anything with https:
I guess some security settings have gone awry, but having checked those in Internet Options, I can't see what the problem is.
Can anyone help?
Thanks.
Guys
I've been suffering with exactly the same problem using a USR router to connect to the internet. I tried all the messing about with MTU settings with no success.
I have just solved my problems by switching from PPPoA to PPPoE Now the whole internet is accessible again.

Hi,
I had the same trouble when I connected my brand new Linksys router last week.
I found the firmwareware was about a year out of date, so I downloaded and installed the latest firmware to it and voila - all websites are now accessible.
None of the info in the README file indicated a fix for this problem, but it might be worth a try for others.
Regards
Neil

I am a PC engineer and now have 4 customers with the same problem. They all have an ADSL connection and can use Email (OE) and MSN but they cannot access web pages correctly. Google will display OK and you can search BUT you cannot then click on the search results - the page just hangs. 3 of them are using Windows ME with USB modem, the other XP with router. All were working fine until about 10 days ago. They have all contacted Orange Support to be told there is no problem. I have checked settings against those published by Orange and all seem OK. I have changed DNS to their suggested alternatives - all to no avail.
Any similar experiences? any suggestions.
Regards,
Very much a similar experience, but I'm using a plain vanilla Belkin modem/router. Problem emerged literally overnight (ie wake up, and can't browse other than a handful of sites). What has fixed it for me, for the time being, is swap from PPOA, which is the correct setting according to all the information I have, to PPOE. Even then the service has been slow, and unavailable a couple of times.
In terms of a proper fix, I think it's most likely time for me to move to an ISP that operates in a professional manner.
As others only a few sites accessible Google ok, HBO (!) but not bbc, started a few days ago. Still able to access sites through the PAYG dail up I still have. (Need that to download Tweakmaster)
PC running Windoze 98SE through a Speedtouch Modem - used tweakmaster as outlined in previous post and running ok (so far)
Same problem for me - but I can't get to the TweakMaster site. Will try to download it from work, but anyone got any alternative sites to try in the mantime. Or anyone tell me how to change the PPP for a Speedtouch 330?
I believe changing the PPP option on a speedtouch needs a driver reinstall but I'm not certain.
As for the MTU thing there's also the program Dr. TCP. I think Admin's been trying to get it sorted so a copy can be hosted here at some point. The site for it is:
