Well the official stance from Orange regarding my crap broadband service was " There is nothing we can do! "
After waiting 3 days for a second opinion phone call from " a specialist technical team" I was slightly pi**ed off when I ended up being contacted by an Asian gentleman from a poxy call center.
So all I get for my 10 years of loyal custom is sweet F All.
I now intend to cancel both my mobile and broadband contracts, why should I waste my money on your services when you dont give a stuff for your customers?

The exchange IMO is bullshiz. I live about half a mile from the telephone exchange, and I have a friend who lives half a mile further, and uses the same exchange. At peak times he retains his full 8mbs, when I would be getting 0.5mbs. He's on BT, and I'm on Orange. So the problem is not with the exchange, but with Orange.
I also used to be with Orange, and for a little while, my broadband was great. Some people may remember my previous posts, with all the problems I had.
Since then, I left Orange to join Sky, the connection was better, but was still not perfect, although it wasnt directly Sky's broadband, they got theirs from somewhere else as they didnt cover the area I lived in, so I continued my quest to get a decent connection.
At last, I seemed to have found the answer, in a company called PlusNet.. They were recommended to me and since joining them several months ago, I have had the best internet connection I have had. No more major packet loss, no more ping spiking and no more lag at peak times I am on a limited connection, with a download limit of 10gb but with my online gaming and surfing (also Xbox), I only use 2-3gb a month. Unless you do big downloading, I would thoroughly recommend checking them out.
Dont listen to lies from Orange, blaming your phone line, the phone exchange, etc, they told me all this, blaming everything else, but somehow, magically, since I went to PlusNet, all this disappeared.
Good luck in sorting your problem, but take my advice and go elsewhere, you get nothing but problems and no help from Orange.
www.plus.net is their website if you want to check them out
