The connection is no longer so bad at dropping, but it fluctuates ridiculously.
I've been surfing the net at 54mbps, which in my view should be expected between two new bits of hardware within a few metres, and then suddenly it'll drop to 28, 16, 5, 3, and eventually floating between 0 and 1. Sometimes at this point I lose connection, or alternatively it skyrockets again.
The thing I hate about it is that it's not so broken that you can do all sorts of diag to see waht's up, it's just temporary problems that you don't have time to analyse before they fix themselves again.
It might not sound like a big deal, but if you're trying to bid on ebay for example, if it cuts down your speed just before you bid, you're ruined. I sorted out this whole Orange system to get my dad off of AOL who are to be honest THE worst ISP on the planet, so it's disappointing that it still doesn't work.
i work for teq so i know alot even tho u mite think all teq ppl are stupid lol
I wish I could believe you mate but, sorry, I don't.
I have the same problem here. Wireless drops out after an inactive period. I use a wirless sniffer and the Livebox appears to go into "sulk mode" allowing a ping every couple of minutes. It's as if its gone to sleep itself.
Pairing question. This only needs to happen once per client?

Button number "2" on the Livebox. What;s it for.
Yes, once a device is paired the livebox stores it's MAC address so it can connect at any point in the future providing it provides the correct WEP key.
Button 2 is to turn off the glowing "W" logo...
or if you have the newer Orange Livebox then it's a secret way to make your download speed go faster, but only when you're holding it!
I have found a solution to the problem of the Livebox losing connectivity after a period of inactivity
I dont know WHY it was happening, but the Livebox seemed to lose all ability to resolve DNS when it had been idle for a period of time (i.e you could access the BBC website by typing 212.58.227.76 but if you typed in www.bbc.co.uk it wouldnt resolve)
The way to cure this problem is to go into your network settings on your PC, go into "Internet Protocol (TCP/IP)" properties, and where it says USE THE FOLLOWING DNS SERVER SETTINGS, put in the following two DNS servers:
195.92.195.94
195.92.195.95
(may require a restart of pc to take effect properly)
Hmmm. I had the same problem with a PC connecting wirelessly to the Livebox via an AccessPoint (eithernet/wireless bridge) and this was fixed by, if I remember correctly, hardcoding the default gateway to the IP address of the Livebox and/or pointing DNS to the same. But I never had to go to external DNS servers.
My main problem was finding a suitable channel. I tried 1 and 6 before settling on 7 when magically everything started to work.
Yep, specifically naming the livebox as the default gateway/dns SHOULD solve the problem, however this was still unreliable for me. The livebox was still reluctant to resolve DNS at times
I found the only way to ensure 100% connectivity all the times was to use these external DNS servers, which work brilliantly all the time
I'll try those DNS servers myself when I get home. Might explain the occasional ("why's the Internet stopped working again" cry from my better half Elhana, any ideas ?

Not sure on the cause but I've had a similar problem with my non-livebox setup so I ended up setting all my DNS manually, going to setup my server to run it's own DNS over the next few days.
Should mean I can setup internal network domains for stuff too if I can work out how exactly.
