Just goes to show how truly shocking Orange are as a company. I only moved to them because they offered free broadband, what a mistake. Not only do i rarely have access to the internet, but my mobile bills have increased by 120%!!!!!!!!
I get a feeling the rise in phone bill may have something to do with the premium rate Orange "help line" number i call for an hour almost every day.
I have finally given up, haven't had connection since Tues 15th Jan, and this is the 12 - 15th time i've lost connection in the last 6-8 months, its a complete joke.
Funnily enough when i demanded my MAC code they suddenly put me through to an English call centre, who were able to offer ALOT more help than the Indian one, and they also even said they could get me directly in touch with an engineer....not a chance, i just cancelled immediately.
Will be cancelling my mobile contract this week.
well after getting on the phone AGAIn to india and asking for my MAC code i was given another helpline number. then got through to the 'care' team (based in the UK, thank GOD!) and then i actually started to get some answers. Contrary to what india told me its actually a problem with their DNS server. so i was given some new DNS server numbers to try to input manually (will try it later at home).
India told me to enter Ip addresses rather than website names (www. etc etc).. well thats not a solution is it ?
yet to see if this works or not but basically if i hadnt made extra effort to phone again i would have been left 'waiting' for access to be fixed for who knows how long.
btw the guy in the 'care' team seemed to think this was a very isolated issue ?
unfortunately i still have 13 months left on my mobile contract so im stuck with terrible service and support for a while at least.
I have had no connection for a week now. I have rang Orange many times and keep getting through to call centre in India!!!
I am really frustrated now and have told Orange if it's not working in a few days I will be cancelling.
My contract dosen't run out until May but they have broke their side of the agreement.
I can't understand how the laptop and x box are working, just the wired connection that isn't.
I am having the same problem as Gamer, my Pc is without connection although it says I am connected...
I keep getting IE can't display the webpage and DNS server error message.
The livebox isn't faulty as it's picking up a wireless signal... I have rang Orange once again who assure me someone from UK call centre will ring within 48 hours. If not i'm off to BT.
I can tell you that for me, putting a new DNS address in has worked! (you can see if it is a DNS related issue, try typing the IP address for say Google (216.239.51.99) into your browser) does it work ? if yes then its definately a DNS issue.
open your network settings (im on a MAC), go to configure, then under DNS put in one of these possible DNS servers..
Primary DNS 208.67.222.222
Secondary DNS 208.67.220.220
that should work (fingers crossed)
amazing. 2 minutes talking to someone who actually has a brain rather than a checklist in-front of them.
so not the first time Orange has had issues with there DNS.
You misunderstood my sardonic taunting of Orange ......this has been ongoing since very early last year, you are just tagging on to the end (?) of the first problem which Orange should have resolved before last summer.
If you click on the Search OrangeProblems link you'll probably see about 100 similar posts all to do with the same first problem....that is, it has never gone away !!!!
I have been helping a friend on Orange since early November, still money going out still no broadband. It kicked off with the PPP server down issue (which is exchange / orange server related, something the support teams can't grasp) which dragged..... on till mid December when the @ light started flashing quickly. Confirmed with my Buffalo router (I am with Madasafish, who are fast, reliable and have great support BTW) that the ADSL was gone. We trhen checked the livebox cables + filter on my line and it could see ADSL fine. The "faulty" line also still works with a 56K modem (thank god). I am now beyond finger and toes counting the calls to Orange, and am now currently on my 4th "Phone back in a few hours, the line test tool is down" this week. I congratulate anyone who managed to get a line test done, even though you will never get an engineer. They have promised to phone me back on my Orange mobile, which of course they won't.
We did get a slight repreve with the PPP server down by connecting my buffalo router on PPPoE instead of the default of PPPoA which is pre-programmed into the livebox and cannot be changed. I did see that this may be related to certain ADSL system configurations that Orange systems can't cope with. These can fail if your MTU value is 1500, which is fixed in the Livebox. Ha! As you know you are charged for the livebox, but if you don't want it the price stays the same (Go figure)
Just a rant really. I hope you all find a good ISP one day.
I can only suggest asking for your MAC code. they then seem to take it seriously and you may get to talk to one of the 'care' team at Orange who actually seem to know something.
No problem.....if you search OrangeProblems with a new post, you are likely to find many similar posts going back to 2006/2007.
For this reason, I am convinced that Orange do not have control of the majority of their broadband network otherwise problems would be corrected and new LLU conversions would proceed smoothly.
They rely on sub-contractors such as Magdalene and Ventura to provide the services but Orange fail miserably to contract manage the work that they do effectively.
How Orange continue to retain their quality accreditation is beyond me.
Yippee, it's working!!! Thanks to gamer101 Have you ever thought of a career at Orange? Your post was more helpful than the 20 calls to India!!!
I don't think for a second that I won't have any future problems with Orange but it's on for now, thank god.
Many thanks for the very helpful post. Kelly
