Just found out on one of the links you posted, JohnM, that the Iso mode is only supported in Speedtouch 330 and not USB and i've done all the registery edits and the new drivers etc. when I only have a 2mb line at the moment!
I'm going to clean out the drivers etc. that was installed and rollback the registry to see if it helps at all. Still waiting on that livebox to arrive!
P.S: I looked at the line rate and my readings were:

I said that in my first post in this thread

Not quite sure what you mean here. The stats below show you were synch'ed at over 5.5Mbps. But note that download speeds will always be less than synch speeds and at busy times could be considerably less. Also, using the old green modem you won't get above a download rate of about 4Mbps.

Not sure it's worth messing about too much if a Livebox is on its way but please let us know if you discover anything interesting. Those of us who are trying to help but don't live in LLUed areas are unable to experiment ourselves.

P.S: I looked at the line rate and my readings were:
Transmit: 288
Recieve: 5888
These were just after I connected.
Line Rate won't change while the modem remains synch'ed (not on ADSL1 anyway).
In another thread you said ( Mon Jun 19, 2006 8:21 am):

Hey, i've got my USB modem to be more stable now but I am also have disconnections on 22:00 on the DOT! And then every so often after that until the early morning... =(
Can I just double-check this? Are you saying that installing the High Speed Driver 'fixed' the losses of synch before 22:00 but not the ones after? Thanks.
No, I installed the oldest drivers that came with the modem about 4 years ago and the line is stable and downloading at top 2mb speeds during the day. Whereas with the high speed drivers, i was not downloading right and there was bad lag during the day (probably because im on 2mb and not on 'high speed' 4mb+). There is also a registery file going around in some of the forums that BT issued that changes some settings to optimize your connection - luckily i backed up my registery before applying this and restored default settings.
My livebox has arrived but i'm not gonna have a chance to set it up for 24 hours or so, but when I do I sure hope its fixed!
P.S: Stable connection now, but from about 22:00 every night I disconnect every 5-30mins until 3am ish. (adsl light flashes again for 10seconds then works again after I connect)
Further to my post on 15 June: a couple of days ago I replaced the old Speedtouch USB 'stingray' modem with a Speedtouch 330.
I first installed the Speedtouch software using the 'more than 4Meg' option. I also ran two more bits of software on the Speedtouch CD: (a) the optimizer and (b) the driver settings upgrade that enables ISO USB connection.
These actions led to a whole lot of problems, which seemed to vary according to whether I had done one or more of them.
Sometimes I could establish a connection - but couldn't get on the internet or receive e-mail. (And, yes, I did check the browser and e-mail account options to ensure Speedtouch was the default connection.)
Other times the connection worked OK after reinstalling the software. But, on rebooting, it would no longer work - the dialup would begin and then present error messages. A couple of times I cured this by removing and replacing the USB jack. But I am certainly not going to get down on my hands and knees to crawl behind the PC to do that every time.
So I then reinstalled the software using the 'below 4Meg' option. This works - up to a point. Even though I have Bulk rather than ISO connection, the speeds are often above 4Megs - I think the fastest is has been 6.6Megs.
I'm still getting some disconnections. But nothing like as many as before.
I have no idea whether this improvement is because I've changed modems or because the incoming line is more stable.
The disconnections are, of course, still annoying. But - grudgingly - I think I'll give Orange a bit longer before moving to another ISP.

Thanks, but I'm still a bit confused The stats you posted showed you were synch'ed at over 5.5Mbps.

Please let us know how you get on with the Livebox.

Does it work normally after 03:00? (I'm trying to rule out things like interference from a faulty streetlight.)

I assume these are line speeds (synch speeds) rather than data download speeds.
I assume these are line speeds (synch speeds) rather than data download speeds.
When I hover the cursor over the connection icon in the system tray I see: 'Speedtouch Connection Speed: X.X Mbps'. That is what I meant by 'speed'.
Incidentally, now that I've been using the Speedtouch 330 for a bit longer, a very clear pattern has emerged. The initial connection is at various speeds from 4+Megs to 6+Megs. Sooner or later the line goes down. When the connection is re-established, the speed is ALWAYS lower.
I assume this is the result of something happening in the exchange (or whatever the technical term is for where it happens).
I'm still in two minds over whether to switch to another ISP.
All night, not able to sync. Well, It had a 46 second cylce, of which 8 seconds was connected.
Since then, the longest time I've been connected without dropping is 1hr 20. But that was ONCE. Otherwise, i'm lucky to get a minute connected (having said that, right now i'm at 24minutes.)
Bandwidth tests say I have a 300kb/s connection. Nice, eh?
From 1mb/s Stable to 2.5mb/s that really is 300k.
I phoned up Orange, as you do, and of course I got a load of bullcrap.
"The engineer messed it up, it'll be done by Friday 4pm/5pm, Because its still showing as PENDING here."
I've tried everything above but still problem, only thing i haven't done is a new modem.
Error i get is Line drops / Error 797 - problems after changing from wanadoo
I’ll post this in a few as not sure where is appropriate as I have a issue with my connection keep dropping out and Orange!
I can believe how badly the change over has been from a fine no problem issue for the past 4 years with Freeserve / Wanadoo to this so call free upgrade not worth the hassle 2p I pay for line dropping connection I now have with Orange.
I am a technical support engineer but I find the lack of information I get back from Orange is not helping matters.
Since my upgrade from a 2mb line to a 4mb+ (quote ‘if my telephone line can handle it’) I’ve had connection dropouts (mainly at night) every hour or so and this will not do.
I use the Acaltel (green) stringray and this has been fine for the past year no problems move to Orange and now I get drop outs and the error 797 which means it can’t find my modem and I have to reboot which is so frustrating.
I have read all other scenarios and other people’s similar problems on this forum and updated the latest drivers and reinstalled everything but no joy. The only thing I can think of is I need a better modem but Orange hasn’t informed us that this needs to be done. I suppose there view don’t inform unless there is a problem which to many of the engineers at the end of the phone that can’t see???
What really frustrates me is that they are going to make even more millions from the support line by making people call in and say there is a problem when they should have dealt with it in the first place.
If anyone else has had similar problems and I’m sure there is bound to be hundreds then please let me know;
a) How your response was from the support staff
b) Did they give you any advice?
c) What was it?
d) Did it resolve the problem?
