Got my livebox but am having troble connecting wireless. At the moment I have a wired connection but would like a wireless connection. I am using windows xp service pack 2 but when I go to view wireless networks nothing comes up I get the following messege
Windows cannot configure the wireless connection
If you have enabled another program to configure the wireless connection use that software
If you want to use windows to configure this wireless connection click change advance settings click the wireless network tab then select the check boxlabeled use windows to configure my wireless network settings.
Upon doing that I still cannot connect to the wireless network I am not using the speedtouch USB stick but am using a peak 802.11b/g. When I tried to connect earler today with the ADSL cable un plugged fro the filter it connected as it said start browsing when I plugged the ADSL cable back into the filter I would not connect wireless. My WEP key is entered into the configuration on the USB addaptor and when I ping it through its IP address it works to. Antone have any ideas?
I'm no expert, and might be stating the obvious, but have you pressed the button No. 1 on the livebox to put into pairing mode before attempting to connect wirelessly?
It should stay in pairing mode for 10 minutes after you press the button.
I'm no expert either...but I'm going to try this when I get home. Instead of using DHCP, hardcode the address of your laptop/PC, IE
IP address: 192.168.1.50 (anything except .1)
Mask 255.255.255.0
Gateway 192.168.1.1
DNS server 192.168.1.1
Don't forget to re-pair (or if you get fed up doing this change the Livebox pair time to "--" which means always pair)
AND/OR set Livebox authentication to WEP only
AND/OR set Livebox authentication to WPA only
AND/OR set Livebox channel to something more suitable e.g. 6 or 7

I wouldn't recommend this at this point, forcing the IP address when it's not working in the first place when on automatic almost inevitably fails.
He meant USE the wireless adapter software to manage the wired connection rather than USE Windows own software.

Okay but how would I go about doing that? and why would I want the wireless adapetr to manage the wired connetion when the wired connection is connected to the Ethernet card inside PC?

Are you happy to use the wired ethernet connection or prefer to use the wireless?
The wired connection is generally more stable and simpler.
If you want the wireless connection for your PC then you need to use the wireless connection software which should have been installed. Thats why you're getting the message that windows can't configure it, when you installed the adapter it set it's software to control it. Usually it'll be an icon on the desktop or a listing in the start menu, run it and try to connect.

Okay first of all I have the wireless connection software installed on the PC there is an icon on the desktop with the name of the USB adaptor. Not one post on here has been very helpfull in fact I am getting quite annoyed you guys
The wireless software...
Can it detect the livebox?
Does it say it's connected or give any details of it's status?
Does it give an IP address that it's been assigned, if so what is it?
Does the livebox config pages, Security > Assigned Devices have any wifi listings?
Have you connected or tried to connect any other wireless devices to this livebox?
If the wireless is saying it's connected can you open 192.168.1.1 in Internet Explorer?

Thanks Elhana for your post okay here we go without the ethernet connection IE when disabled it does not respond with the live box on the ping command of 192.168.1.1, The wireless adpoter sayes it is connected and at the moment it says 77,068 sent and 127,391 recieved. The IP address is given as 192.168.1.60 with the subtask given as 255.255.255.0 and the defalt gateway given as 192.168.1.1. The name of the USB wireless adpoter is in the listings for the wireless ievice and is given as 00:12:0E:45:77:97. I haver not tryed to connected any other wireless devices to the com but would like to give it a go and as stated above I cannot connect to the internet via the wireless adopeter. I would be very happy if you could advise many thatnk.
Apart from it not working that actually looks pretty healthy for wireless.
It's got a valid IP, correct subnet mask, default gateway and appears to be sending and receiving data ok.
Most common for this would be for a firewall blocking the wireless connection but allowing the wired. Or even the livebox firewall blocking things but it shouldn't really.

So do you have any ideas as to why it will not connect? If so what are they?
