I've just scanned some of the other forums for similar threads re. slow 20Mb connections.......there seems to be none......on <a href="http://www.maccodes.co.uk" target="MAC">Orange</a>'s own site nor on Thinkbroadband's <a href="http://www.maccodes.co.uk" target="MAC">Orange</a> section....strange ?
Is the problem as widespread as we might think ?
Maybe not many people on that package ?
That's possible. It's fairly new (3 moths old) and 0range have only unbundled 944 (out of nearly 5600) exchanges and most of the customers at those could still be on the 8meg packages. Just guessing.
Don't forget we could have been some of the first to sign up , like 1 month after general release.

What you have to remember is that the vast majority of people would be "sold" on the idea of a 20meg connection, little realising that if their attenuation was >33dB (approx) then they would not get a faster throughput than on an 8meg connection.
Orange pitched the price lower than what some existing customers were paying for 8meg so it paid them to "upgrade" to 20meg even though there was no gain other than price.
Well after waiting a couple of days for the DLM to try again, the DLM resynced my router at just before 8:45am today.
Result was that it did not work, still stuck on the 4 meg profile and have been for a whole week now! If I am not up to 12.5 meg in a weeks time, it will have been 2 months of slow speeds!!! 6 weeks of 1 meg, 1 week of 4 meg, when will I ever get to 12.5meg!??!
So according to how this DLM works, I now have to wait another 36 hours for it to have another attempt!!
I have asked Orange to manually put me on 12.5 meg, if this can be done by lowering my SNRM, then they will have to give that a go.
Had a phone call from the exec office. Orange are going to manually set my profile to 12 meg, it should take 24 hours for me to get this speed. So I will see what happens in the coming hours. From what I can gather the DLM software had problems collecting the data from my line. The software is going to be patched to overcome this but in the meantime they are going to set my profile manually.
Fingers crossed this time tomorrow I will be on 12 meg.
I reckon still a few tweaks to get a faster speed, esp SNRM of 10, Orange said they like to have this at 6.00, so I should be able to get a bit faster. Download was being reported at 1023, but is at 960, I guess that could go a little higher.
But overall it is GOOD NEWS INDEED!!
And if anyone has any speed problems, it looks like Orange can now fix the problem manually

That's excellent news all round.
Firstly for you obviously and secondly that they can manually adjust things.
My attenuation is lower than yours suggesting I can get a higher speed and my SNRM is the same. So if 0range like the SNRM at 6 and they can manually set mine to 6 my speed could go to 14meg I reckon. Things is though what would I use that extra 1.5meg for.
Last night I was only getting between 4 meg and 6 meg download speeds.
This morning around 8 meg!
I may have the profile of 12 meg but what should I be getting in real terms?
I would have thought around 10-11meg.
I guess Orange throtte the bandwith during the evening!
Plus I am still getting a lot of FEC errors on the line, in millions!
When Orange tested my line and invoked a resync, the FEC errors slowed right down but on the 12 meg profile, I am getting loads.
Plus I wonder if my line has still got interleaving on. Should it be fast?
It would be nice to be able to get a solid 10 - 12 meg download 24/7 but at the moment I would say my speeds in real life are way down.

There's no throttling that I can detect as even on p2p (torrents) I can get my full bandwidth any time of day.
With my line syncing at 13020 this morning I'll get 11.1Mbps with speedtest.net.
You should get between 80-90% of your sync speed in real terms. In my case it's about 87%.
So really it depends what your sync speed is not the profile you're currently on. If they've set it to 12meg I'd expect you'd eventually get to sync close to that soon. Try a few router power-offs and physically disconnecting the adsl line.
Ping is not that good. Download speed is okay but I reckon I could get 13 meg on the line,
Upload speed could be improved, the profile on my line is at 960KPS. That should be 1024 and 1024 should be achievable.
So still a little bit of work to do on my line before I am 100% happy.
After waiting all these weeks, I am happy that things are progressing but if I can get my line performing to the max of its capabilities, then that will even better.
Router is reporting max speed of 14.5 and has stayed like that since my profile changed. so I reckon I could push another 1 meg out of the line.
Upload and download speeds are someway behind your % of sync speed, hopefully the lad watching my line who reads these threads can give my line a little push.
