I have a Brother DCP-315CN USB/network printer which I had wired into a Belkin wireless modem/router along with the main house PC. The laptops in the house could print even though connected wirelessly. I'd like to do exactly the same with my Livebox but I can't get any PC to recognise that the printer is connected to the livebox either on the USB or yellow ethernet ports. The main PC is connected to the red ethernet port. Can you tell me how I can fix this? Thanks
Stick to the LAN connection for it, it's just better.
It's probably down to IP address. Did you set the printer's IP address previously for the belkin? I believe belkin use a different subnet as default so if it was still on that your system simply wouldn't be able to see it.
Check it's documentation and see if you can set it to use DHCP if possible.
Go to the Configuration > Usb host port and see if the printer is recognised
You should see something like this (obviously yours won't say hp 2100 series)
USB Host Port
USB Peripherals
PSC 2100 Series (Hewlett-Packard)
Vid: 1008
Pid: 10257
USB Version: 2.00
Revision: 1.00
Serial number: 123456789abc
If you have then go to you pc, and add new printer, search for local printer
When it say cannot find click next, then create new port > tcp ip/port, next, next then enter the ip address 192.168.1.1
The search will not find your printer, but give you a pull down menu. There are 2 options for brother, one is print server, the other print server nc8000 so i guess it's the first
Select the printer driver, and bob's your uncle (well maybe not but your printer should work )

That may work for now but the next time your livebox reconnects and gets a new IP address it'll stop working. The address you should enter is the LAN address not the WAN address. You're sending to an address that happens to correspond to your livebox at the time, by default for all liveboxes the LAN address you want will be 192.168.1.1.
I reset the printer to default factory settings then chose DHCP , as suggested above, and all now works perfectly! Just waiting for the VOIP phone calls to start and all my expectations will be met.
