After some help/advice please, I have a wireless laptop and the Wanadoo/Orange Livebox. I have just moved house and am in the process of getting my broadband transferred to my new address. I have been using the Livebox at my previous address for about six months and had it all set up wirelessly with my laptop no problem.
However on plugging it all back in today, my laptop is picking up the wanadoo connection but is not automatically connecting to it like it should, sometimes it will connect to it automatically but then drop out after a short while and other times it just doesn't connect to it at all? Also sometimes in my wireless connection list the Wanadoo network isnt there at all?
My broadband service at my new address isn't enabled yet but surely my laptop should still be connecting to my livebox shouldn't it or is it because my internet connection is still waiting to be activated, would that effect it? The settings and everything are fine as like I said it was setup before and worked fine, I haven't changed anything on that side of things.
It is set to connect automatically to the wanadoo connection and it is picking it up but at the moment it seems a bit hit and miss, any ideas?
So basically should I be able to still connect to the Wanadoo network even though my internet connection is down, why isn't it even showing up sometimes but is at others and also why does it sometmes connect to it and then drop and then most of the time it is showing that the wanadoo network is there but wont connect to it?
The key here is you moved house . Wifi is very susceptible to interference and its surroundings . This can be got around usually by changing the wifi channel on the livebox . You say sometimes it works and other times it doesnt , Sort of indicates something is being switched on in the vicinity of your house . You will probably find its a neighbour turning on their wifi router .
Check your list of available networks and note down the names of all the networks that are visible to you when you can connect . Then do it again when you cant connect and you will likely find theres a new name not in the first list .
Then its a case of going through the channels until you can find one that gives you a reliable connection .
Thx for the reply, so you think it could just be a case of going through the wifi channels and seeing if any work?
It is set to channel 1 at the moment, is their a channel setting on my laptop wireless conection as well that I'm supposed to match up with the livebox channel?
And also are you saying that I should still be able to connect wirelessly to the livebox even though I a still waiting for my internet connection?
Thx for the advice, sorted now, changed the channel to 4 and hey presto connected to the network first time and every other time since. Just waiting for my internet connection now and I have lift off.
