After Three weeks of no bb, being lied to by tech support, listening to scripts and hold music i decided enough was enough and signed up with NTL.
I rang cust services today to log a complaint about service and get some money back, oh my god worst service in the world ever. Spoke to Three people including Rachel in escalations (yeah right), who coincidentally had rang my mum 5 mins earlier threatening her with debt collector because BT hadnt informed them she switched isps. I work in cust services for massive organisation and this company lets the industry down, yes we all make mistakes but Orange and staff are totally uninterested in helping in anyway. no apology from any of advisors and all you get is company policy blah blah blah.
Anyway i have been informed today that you cant cancel your contract in writing you have to call them cos how are they to know you wrote letter, it could of been anyone???? its in their terms and conditions apparantly and if i want to know where i have to write to Head Office who seemingly accept letters to find out where. Have u heard anything so ridiculous? is this true?
why on earth would i want to pay for service i am not receiving? oh and if i dont pay it will be sent to debt collector. charming!!

Unfortunately thats correct. You have to call them. I guess that gives them the opportunity to promise you the world in the hope you stay. Can't do that with a letter. Anyway heres the relevant clause from therir T & C's
19.5 Any notice of termination by you must be made by calling Customer Support. You may be required to prove your identity to our reasonable satisfaction before we accept such notice of termination as being valid
