One's BT's system the other's Orange's, quite a lot is known about ADSL Max and how it works but Orange LLU is somewhat mysterious as very little hard facts are known about the system such as training if any, any data profile settings, what it does when an odd low sync rate is hit, how long it takes to move the data profile up after a slow connection, or even if it works in this way at all.

Thanks for that - I have lots of info on Max but Orange LLU remains a mystery. I wonder whether it would be better to have 2 seperate boards here. One for Max the other for LLU.

Many people don't realise which system they're on and apart from speed issues the two systems are very similar in terms of what you need to check and do to try and correct any problems.
Instead it may be worth just tagging the thread tittles with *LLU* or *Max*, which I could edit in as needed.
Same problems here, using the tannochside exchange. Only time i get good speed is around midnight, when my speed climbs back to 2mb. Not the 8mb I'm meant to get.
Most of the time it is around 512k, but it can drop well below that as well.
Orange do appear to be acknowledging problems now at least:

The service is up and running at the moment.
Customers in Liverpool, Newcastle, Tannockside and Cardiff may be experiencing intermittent disconnections or slow browsing due to a known network issue. This is a known fault which is currently under investigation.
After 4 complaints to the ISPA it seems Orange are interested in fixing the problem... However, nothing they try seems to work! Still being put down to line or equipment problems! Anyhow, to cut a long story short my max connection speed was dropped from just over 8000kbps to just over 6000kbps, with a net effect of causing download speeds to be further reduced...
Anyhow, now seems Orange don't accept the results of www.thinkbroadband.com and instead have chosen to use a download of the ATI Radeon drivers to show download speeds ( I wonder if they are paying AMD for use of bandwidth? ) It's a shame the download results have the same outcome, ie less then 2.5Mb download rate on a line that should be capable of at least 6Mb if not the full 8Mb.
I'm still waiting for a final answer from Orange... However, I have managed to get another email address that could prove usefull to those with problems.. I have no idea of the guys position in the company, however I am guessing it's fairly high as this seems in direct response to ISPA complaints...
The email address is "*********@orange-ftgroup.com"
Edit by Admin: We were contacted by this member of Orange staff on 26 May 2007 who requested that we remove his email address - More info here
If enough of us complain, they surely have to be made to do somthing?
I am also in the process of submitting a complaint to PC Pro magazine who recently reviewed Orange given them quite a poor score based on customer feedback, I wonder why? Any how, if enough of us complain maybe they will include an article in the next edition? You can complain directly by emailing watchdog@pcpro.co.uk
Hi there, I've been reading this website (at work) for the last two months, the reason i've been doing it at work is i've been having the dreaded PPP server down issues and lack of information issues with customer services.
I'm on an LLU and my broadband came back on two days ago (After Two months and Three days without any service). but damn it's slow, i'm on up to 8Meg, heres my sys info
ADSL firmware version : A2pBT009c1.d17d
Connection mode : G.DMT
Type : Fast
Noise margin (dB) : 24.5
Attenuation (dB) : 54.0
Attainable download rate (kbps) : 5696
ADSL status : Connected [0]
If i'm on a fixed 2Mb shouldn't they have told me.
I realize that they have a lot on their plate, but i have spoken to them roughly every third day for the last two months, for at least an hour a time. (was on hold once for 2hrs 47mins before someone answered, only stayed on hold out of morbid curiosity)
I really wish that their deal didn't look so good on paper(8meg, free VOIP, Unlimited D/L's all for a fiver on top of your mobile deal), might stop more poor fools singing up with them..
I wonder how much money they spent on that new advert that started the other day. really P###'s me off that they are still advertising they're service when so many people out there simply aren't getting any service.
The futures looking bright, the futures leaving Orange!
Well, looks like all the complaining and calls have finally got me somewhere! I received a letter from Orange offering to terminate my contract and waive the cancellation fee... They even offered to refund all my calls to support if I provide them with an itemised bill! Ive just sent the acceptance email off to them, will let you all know how it goes...
I've been looking at the ISP Be (www.bethere.co.uk) who offer up to 24 meg download with 1.3 meg upload. I've had a chat with them and they seem fairly confident that I should get between 15 and 18 meg, although they can't obviously guarentee that... Does anyone have any experience of them? I don't want to end up in the same position again!
