Not bad although the livebox login default username and password are both "admin" not the password as blank. Also the default IP should be 192.168.1.1, if it's been changed then it's likely they either know it or know easily how to find it out. Generic network card seems to work well for a lot of people but it doesn't work for every printer, some use HP Jet Direct and another print server I think but I can't remember it offhand.
used the guide above last week worked straight away really pleased. only thing i'm concerned about is the security of the box when i chose wpa instead of wep it hangs!
Orange are yet to release the software - if that is what they will do, but you can achieve the same result with just windows XP and the livebox.
There are Screen shots in a powerpoint document if you need them.
PLEASE people for your sanity dont use this guide. It will work OK until your livebox reconnects at some point to Orange and your WAN ip address changes. What the poster has done (in good faith) is mapped the network printer to the internet IP address, not the LAN ip address.
Follow my guide on the BBForums for the CORRECT way to set it up - Theres howtos for Windows XP/2k, Linux and MACOsX. Feel free to PM me for assistance if required.
An old thread I know, but I finally got round to trying out LivePrinter and it's working fine with my 8 year old Epson Stylus Photo 870, connected to my network of 2 (wired) desktops and a (wireless) laptop.
I've got a new Canon ip4500 on it's way any day now so I'll be trying it too.
Question: Will I be able to have both working off the Livebox (e.g. through a hub attached to it)? I'm keeping the Epson (loaded with cheap ink) for text etc and using the Canon purely for high quality output Crazy that a £240 photo printer from 8 years ago is worth no more than £10 on ebay but that's the "positive" side of progress if you're a buyer rather than a seller! At least I'm only shelling out under a quarter of the Epson's price on its replacement.
Question: Will I be able to have both working off the Livebox (e.g. through a hub attached to it)?
Well logically speaking your running two Printers off 192.168.1.1
So wouldn't it just print to both?
I've never tried this myself... I use the Livebox for my HP All In One.. Except i selected Print Server instead of Generic Network Card.. Works nicely..
We'll soon find out! The Canon arrived today but I haven't had time to check it out in LivePrinter, just on the one of the PCs to test it first. I'll report back once I've a) tested it on LivePrinter and b) tried it with the hub I have (once I can be sure I've found the correct power supply for it, as I was using it unpowered up till now).
Following up on the two printers on LivePrinter test:
1) The Canon ip4500 works perfectly via LivePrinter.
2) Either printer will work equally well via my no-name powered USB hub, even though I didn't power the hub.
3) As I'd suspected, it isn't possible to have more than one printer working via the hub. Firstly, Windows will not accept the same port IP address (i.e. 192.168.1.1) for more than one printer. I was able to re-name the port name by adding a digit (either inside brackets or not) but couldn't associate a different driver to it without replacing that for the other printer.
So, as expected, it's one port, one printer and therefore only one printer can be connected to the Livebox. Not a disaster but unfortunate.
On the plus side, the Canon's quality blows the Epson out of the water and cost less than a quarter the Epson cost me all those years ago So it's one printer on the Livebox and one conventionally networked.
Am going to try it later (cos its 00:40 atm, and I think people might get annoyed if I start printing things off) with an HP Deskjet 3320.
Will report back with the results. Hope its easy, I've been trying this for ages, and short of waiting for official word from Orange (ha) I don't see much harm in giving these methods a try.
Edit: Have tried it, I couldn't get it to work. Can't really be bothered to try. I have my printer networked anyway. I just wanted to try it directly from the network, as opposed to off a computer on the network. Never mind though.
