I was with freeserve 512kb package for years, then back in november i changed the package to Orange max and got a line speed of 2mb as 8mb was not in my area yet. Then in december i looked again and i could get speeds of 8mb so i phoned Orange and they changed it for me to 8mb. After 2 days i was getting a connection speed of 7.9-8.1mb come up when i connected to the net using my green stringray old router. i then changed it to a live box so that i could use wireless. all seemed well. then last week i checked my Orange account and they said they were doing work to my account so i checked my line speed as if i was a new custormer and it says i can only get a speed of 2mb so where the hell has my extra 6mb gone. i did a test on samknows and it was saying i can only get 2mb and there is was a crease on my line until the 18th jan. i phoned Orange to see what they were doing and they said that they are upgrading my line to LLU and it would be completed on the 16th jan. I have just checked and i still says 2mb in my profile and that there is no crease on my line anymore.
Could anyone shed some light please as i am tempted to go to Sky for £10 a month
i phoned Orange and they have said that i should be on 8mb well 6.5-8mb as all the upgrade to the LLU network was done yesterday. they said to go to http://www.orange.co.uk/time/a...y_checker/ to do a check and it still only says 2mb. how do i check the connection speed when using a live box. when i get home i might plug my old modem in a see which speed i connect at as it comes up in the corner.
The old green stingray modem isn't reliable when speeds are supposed to be over 4 meg.
With the livebox open Internet Explorer and go to 192.168.1.1,
click the link and enter the log on details as both "admin",
once in click system information on the left,
you should then see the attenuation, noise margin, attainable, upstream and downstream connection speeds within the ADSL section, paste them in here and we'll be able to check them.
Ok that shows you're on the 8 meg LLU connection and that it should be pretty stable with good room for any fluctuations. If the speed remains low then you're going to need to contact Orange as your connection itself looks perfectly fine.
Yeah from those it's running at a good 7 meg. The two 13 meg results are a little odd, probably just due to how that site works, maybe some sort of cached data effect?
Anyway least it looks like it's returned to roughly the same speeds as before, although your upload will now be stuck at 288kbps instead of 448kbps that you get on ADSL Max.
