now just because your connection speed is 8mb you will never really get quite that fast due to various factors - although 5-6MB would not be unreasonable to expect
I'm on Orange 8mb and average about 3.6MB --- your not alone
I recently upgraded to the 8Meg package from 2 Meg (November) but all I seem to be getting is 3.5Meg at the most.
Looking at my info from the livebox it looks like i should be able to get 8Meg.
Try number of speedtests using the one mentioned at different times and over a number of days. Although you maybe able to get a higher download than 3.5M there is not a lot of Noise Margin left to achieve this.

What do you mean by noise margin? How does this affect my speed and how or can it be improved?

I would love to be getting 5-6Meg. I upgraded from 2Meg and havent seen any real difference. Have you contacted Orange?
These are my stats:

How long you been on max? have you checked your wiring? Is the connection to an extension or the master?
Been on Max for 2 month. I have checked the cabling and its on the master socket. Also i got a filter from ASDL nation to see if that would improve things
Have you tried direct into the test socket in the master socket
I have just tried plugging into my master socket and its the same speed. I have also tried my old speedtouch 330 modem with the 8 meg drivers and I can get a speed of 6Meg, then when i put my livebox on i only get a speed of 3Meg The wireless connection is excellent quality.
I signed up to the £19.99 package with 8mb max speed a few months ago I had to use my old speedtouch usb modem for a month as the livebox hadn’t arrived. I checked the speed of the speedtouch usb modem on www.thinkbroadband.com/ and was regularly getting speeds of 5mb. When the livebox arrived I tried the same speed test and I’ve never seen it go above 2mb. I’ve used the livebox for 2 months now and the speed has not improved.
Now I can't get the speedtouch modem to connect properly. I type my username and password. My connection settings looked correct "always dial my default connection" phone number set as 0. This problem is on win 98 se.
I tried it with XP SP1 on another PC and the speedtouch box refuses to respond when I click connect. I made another connection with the connection wizard I type the username and password in but fails to connect. I have the 2 solid green lights on the modem as well.
So how do you use the old speedtouch modem Graham76?
