I am new to this forum and may be replicating previous posts (if so, please accept m apologies).
We recently moved house and, in doing so, upgraded from Wanadoo 512k to Orange 8Mb service. It all came through in the end and I was pleased to have a BB connection again, regardless of speed. Though 'upto 8 Mb, it seemed only marginally quicker than 512 k, though this is not my gripe...
The problem I have is constant in an intermittent way (if that makes sense). Essentially, the connection slows to a pace where pages will not load and the connection effectively drops. When this happens, I have to try and re connect, but get told that it cannot connect to the remote computer. Rebooting the PC allows me back online, but the problems continue to re-occurie terninally slow, cant find web page etc...
Have done virus scan, spyware detection and defrag- all to no avail. Phoned customer services and tech support at Orange and they are to do a line test and get back in 2 days (5 days ago!!). Never expected to get much joy there...
Can anyone advise me what to do? Please... I am stumped and really frustrated.
The problem you have redrose is that you are with Orange.
They are not an ISP but an incompetent, lying excuse for one. This website was setup due to the phenominal amount of complaints Orange get nad yet is still represents aonly a tiny fraction of the true story.
You never get anywhere ringing Orange an telling them - they just don't care.
Your best bet is to move to a real ISP that cares like Idnet.

Some of us have a good service from Orange . For all ISP's you will find people that have more trouble than others . Admittedly the first line support is awful . And all they do is read off the helpsite files anyway . Online forums like this tend to be better for information with technical problems so your in the right place Redrose .
Follow Elhana's advice and see how you go . If your connection is wireless rather than wired it sounds like interference to me .
Some people are lucky enough to not have had any problems with Orange....yet.
Not all ISP s read from scripts, lie and give excuses.
I've been with Idnet now for 6 months, after escaping from Orange.
Never once had a disconnection but had to ring them once as the downloading stopped, which just needed a router reboot.
When I rang they spoke English, were very friendly, based at the actual place and not in India, cared, knowledgable and rang me later to make sure it was working again.
It's quite simple - Orange don't give a damn about their customers and cannot provide broadband properly.
Thanks all for your responses- a couple of them even made me chuckle!
Following Elhana's advice, the speed at the moment is 6.1Mbps and I have not tried reinstalling the modem drivers. I am awaiting a wireless modem from Orange and will start afresh then.
I have just made some changes, coaxed through them by a nice man at Orange. He seemed to think my connection / logon details needed updating wheras his mate (a few days ago) said it was the line, which would be tested immediately. Obviously I'm still waiting for the results. Haha. So much for consistency of response from the techies at Orange.
Anyway, for 10 minutes, all has been OK, so I am crossing my fingers. If the problems re-occur, I will start to mess around with drivers and probably end up hopelessly out of my depth!

Your connection may be fast and efficient but if you do have any problems then you will realise what this site is about and thankfully there is people like Elhana and John that frequent the sight to help people out.
I also left Orange in august which they made very difficult for me even though i wasnt getting a service which i was paying for and they still owe me money ( and i was only able to get a MAC off these people through the ISPA) so count yourself lucky you havnt had any problems because their CS and TS is totally useless.
So please respect people that have had problems with Orange which is a hell of a lot of people hence this site.

Ah good, I presumed you were using a speedtouch USB modem, they have trouble over 4 meg without a driver update and even then seem to be somewhat tempermental. USB especially 1 wasn't designed for this so getting a livebox will help bypass that problem.

Probably recreated the dialup connection within windows for the modem. A good way to knock out a few settings issue that could cause this, still in my eyes it sounds a lot like a driver issue especially because of the way it settled down.
Could end up a line issue but right now it's best to wait for the livebox to come and see how that goes.
In retrospect Orange should probably have kept the intermediate Broadband Plus package as by limiting the upgrade options to just Broadband Unlimited many people have had initial problems with the generally more unstable 8meg line speeds and their customer and technical support seems to have been below the standard most reasonable people would expect.
Sorry if this is not 'entered' properly - I need help in contributing to these 'Forum' type things!!
I've been having a similar problem, especially this evening. Basically requested upgrade to 8meg at the weekend, OK they said and in fact the faster speed arrived!! This evening I couldn't download emails or internet pages, also noticed the last couple of days that although I was connected I kept getting messages saying I was working Offline. Anyway, tonight rang Technical Support (ha ha) - the guy immediately told me my speed was being upgraded and that I should expect problems over the next 10 days especially when the service was busy as they would be trying to detmine exactly what speed they could give me! Then for my email problems he told me to go into Tools/Accounts/Mail - had to check this was pop.orangehome.co.uk - it wasn't so had to remove what was there and add orangehome. Unfortunately I mistyped and entered ORANGR - he instructed me NOT to remove this but amend it. Of course, this didn't work so he said "you need to uninstall and reinstall Outlook Express, to do this you will have to go to a computer specialist". Yes I was not happy. SO I removed the offending ORANGR, added Orange and hey presto I'm up and running - emails AND internet. And of course I'm trying to send a stinking email to Orange but having problems finding relevant email address - surprise surprise.
