Ok guys and gals, here's the script..
I had no idea that Wanadoo had been taken over by Orange for a start as ive had absolutely no problems thus far with connections or anything - I've had the livebox for yonks connected to the PC and had my my laptop connected via one of the Inventel wireless dongle thingys with no problem... However..
Just bought a new laptop as i want to use the built in wireless.. (i hear the groans beginning as you have to help with another wireless issue!).. But i pray u read on as your help will be much appreciated.
I have basically read in depth all of your posts and replies (very informative and helpful i might add) and it has got me from desperation stakes to feeling i'm very close to the prize.
It now says "acquiring network address" once ive entered the encryption key sign in my wireless network connections window but doesn't actually connect. I have tried all types of security setting (WEP, WAP, WEP & WAP) but sadly has made no difference.
I have also tried following the steps from one post to manually type in my IP address, gateway etc.. This seemed to work in that it said that i connected to the Wanadoo network, but i couldn't actually connect to the internet once it was "connected"!!
Ive read something about "pinging" my livebox, not quite sure what that means or how to do it, or if it will help!? Also resetting my livebox? Again will it help, and will it upset my other computer connections already set up?

Hi,
Just a simple one....Did you push the pairing button on the Livebox.....
This is the standard procedure for non-orange wireless having problems.
First use a wired connection to make sure the system itself is working ok.
Log into the livebox and copy the WEP key from the Security > Wireless Connecition section.
Press 1 on the livebox and try to connect wirelessly, when asked for the key paste it in to the box as required.
If it won't connect go into Configuration > Advanced > Wireless and change it to WPA only, submit, let the box settle and try connecting again as above.
Still problems do the same but with WEP only security.
Last option is to check with no security, it should always work in this mode, if not it possibly indicates a problem with the laptop or signal issues.
Pinging is a diagnostic test, all it basically does is prove if there's a connection there by trying to send a piece of data and get a response back.
It's done by going to start, clicking run and typing command or cmd. In the black window that comes up you type...
ping xxxxxxxxx
xxxxxxxxx being a web address or IP addres such as 192.168.1.1, default numeric address of the livebox.
Pinging the livebox seemed to do the trick. After that i managed to pair it no problem on the WEP security setting.
Again a big thankyou, Elhana it seems you do a sterling job in helping people like myself on this website regularly.. Keep up the good work, it is greatly appreciated i assure you.
