THIS IS NOT AN ADMIN POST - THIS IS A POST THAT WAS MOVED FROM OUR PREVIOUS FORUM...
I lost my Wanadoo internet connection on 3 Jan 2006.
First call to tech support blamed my D-Link modem even though it supported upto 8meg dl. After that I bought a new Netgear 16meg modem and I then had the same problem, no connection.
Second call and now the blame was passed to BT, quality of line not good enough from exchange to my house. Complained to BT, BT blamed Wanadoo saying line can support such an upgrade. After much tooing and frowing I called Wanadoo again.
Now I get through to the UK (rather than India, it's random who you get when you call them) and amazingly I get through to a disgruntled employee who goes on to rubbish everything about Wanadoo, says i'll be better of with cable, he could not help me with my problem as he did not want to give me false promises and so advanced my query to the so called 'escalation team' who he warned would very likely not get back to me as they were backed up with customer complaints.
So then after several weeks of lies and broken promises given by poorly trained staff (both in India, who only know about basic issues and in the UK who know very little else it seems abou the bigger picture) and so much more grief and stress I cancelled my account in early March which i've had since the early nineties. Did Wanadoo even care about my case - 12 weeks without a service while they still charged me for the pleasure, did they hell.
I'm now with BT Broadband, just for the connection not the whole yahoo affair and back to 2meg, even though as of Jan 2 I was enjoying a hastle free 2meg service with Wanadoo.
The main issue with this LLU upgrade is that Wanadoo wanted to be first in the marketpalce to offer this upgrade service and thus to have an advantage over their rivals. What they failed to do was properly train the Alcatel engineers to do the LLU upgrade work (you can find out what this involves elsewhere, it's technical and beyond my understanding). As Alcatel is not directly a part of Wanadoo then it seemed to me that Wanadoo had no direct control to force the engineers to correct these faults (my exchange Manchester Droylsden) across what I believe are several sub exchanges in the Manchester and Birmingham areas.
It seems that some exchanges worked right off, Leeds for instance, notorious that as Wanadoo's main office is also in Leeds, would they want problems to occur on their home doorstep, no.
As for the future, BT have recently announced that they are working towards a 8meg dl speed later this year, this won't be an LLU upgrade but instead a total upgrade rolled out to all BT exchanges in a simlar fashion to the previous upgrades that they provisionally guarantee won't cause me the same nightmares as Wanadoo's temporary LLU solution to faster upgrades.
What I recommened as with all new technology is that if you are having Wanadoo LLU issue then cancel your account with them and switch to BT and wait for the technology to settle down.
Oh and i'm now going though the mill to retrieve the £53.97 that Wanadoo are still holding of my money for their lack of service for the period of my nightmarish plight.
Wish me luck!
