On long lines where you can barely get 512, as that info shows then ADSL Max doesn't help much at all. In some cases it can even drop down a data profle so you're effectively on 56k speeds.
Sorry for not responding for a while... I am in the States at the moment so I am away from the PC with the original ‘Flashing ADSL’ issue and therefore I am not able to physically try out all the suggestions regards solving the above issue, but I just wanted to thank…. and, here goes all you fantastic people for your advice so far..:
Elhana,
Bobear,
JohnM
Snow 2004,
Stevelondon,
and Chris0...
I am due back on the 1st November and promise to let you all know the out-come of all your ideas (fixes),.. in the meantime I would like to thank you ( and the originator of OrangeProblems .co.uk) for all your help.
Hi, Guys and er.. Gals (don't want to sound like a certain football manager!),
I am back!! and would you believe it after leaving the Speedtouch modem
and landline phone disconnected for over a month.. ( I have been away!!) guess what .. once reconnected modem stops flashing on boot-up!! and works fine (6 hours and counting..)
Cannot really comment on what has happened at the moment but when I get a minute I while read through all the posts to this thread and see if I can come up with exactly what happened,.. bearing in mind I already tried the disconnect method for 29 hours prior to going away!
Anyway good to be back and once again thanks to all especially:
Elhana,
Bobear,
JohnM
Snow 2004,
Stevelondon,
and Chris0
Will update you soon meanwhile good luck to all the long suffering Orange
customers who have to visit here for a little help!!
Just out of interest (and I am sure many of you know of this link, and I am putting it in this thread regardless!) but if you can handle it take a look at this.. http://forums.orange.co.uk/n/p...orum.aspx?
Sorry mate, its been awhile since I did this stuff.. (and if it appears 'sorted' by just leaving it.. then you tend to do just that!.. Wow, Orange policy rubbing off on me!!).. but I do appreciate the help.
I need a reminder how to do a line/stats test (although I have Dr. Speedtouch installed, for what its worth).
Were there certain links?.. sorry a month in the States.. is well, a month in the States!!
I would love to get to the bottom of this (or try) so post me over the next 24-48 hrs with all your points and I will relate all the relevant information.

Getting a snapshot of the current stats is just about the only thing Dr.S is useful for
Hmm.. You're still synch'ing at 608kbps which is poor for your attenuation but your noise margin shows there's not much room for improvement. Others here stuck on 608kbps synch have had large noise margins (case_sensitiveuk, smugla and shauncwalsh).
You might never get to the bottom of this. It could just be that you have a poor quality line. (I'm asuming that the worst of your symptoms have disappeared.)
More questions I'm afraid:
Did you get these stats with the same setup as your previous stats?
If this wasn't using the test socket, can you get any improvement using the test socket?
Wouldn't blame you at all if you didn't want to mess around with your setup now if your line is stable. After all stability is more important than speed for most of us.
Thanks for the reply. In answer to your questions :
'Did you get these stats with the same setup as your previous stats'?:
Yes, even the same time of day!
'If this wasn't using the test socket, can you get any improvement using the test socket'?
Will do over the weekend and run another test.

To be honest the upgrade from 512kbps to 608kbps has not made any noticeable difference, but I have always been happy with the speed anyway.. even before the enforced upgrade, it was just the connection problem which appeared at exactly the same time that really p...ed me off!
Once again thanks for your help will post again over the weekend.
