Cross posted from another forum...but didn't get any help...
Hey guys now I'm sure your bored of hearing this and this is my first time posting so be gentle, but I'm fed up with my broadband.
The problem I've got is that my line speed on various checkers keeps dropping to 512k soon after getting regraded to 1Meg. This has occured at least Three times in the last 3 months. Approx 1 year ago I was getting 2Meg, I am currently running on 1Meg after a regrade by my ISP but on checking Samknows and BT's checkers they both say 512k now.
Why is this happening and is there anything I can do. P.S. I live in a 3 year old house my next door neighbours either side have a mininum of 2Meg one of them has around 6.5Meg consistantly.....help!!

Our houses are all new same age and attached to each other i.e. not miles apart..
I have swapped the Livebox over for my Older Netgear DG834G which changed the Attenuation (dB) from: 59.0 to 52.0...this is running through the test socket and changing the filters also with no phones/Sky plugged in.
From the looks of those stats 1 meg looks fine although the 4.5meg attainable suggests you may be just missing out on 2 meg.
As for why the BT checker keeps changing I'm not certain, orange don't play any role in controling that. I expect BT monitor the signal on the line, may be that it keeps fluctuating to a point that the system thinks a lower speed will keep it more stable.
At what time of day were those stats taken from the livebox? Try rechecking them between 6-9pm if you didn't as that is more peak time.
Also there's a thread on ADSLGuide.org with help on getting the checker updated with the right speed etc which may be worth looking into.
None of this really matters if you're on a rate adaptive service then you'll get the 'best' synch speed your line can handle. So ensure if you change speed/package with Orange that you move to an 8Meg product. If you migrate make sure your new ISP will use ADSL Max.
It looks like your 2 neighbours lines follow different routes to the exchange (or ones got some aluminium) and your route is similar to next door.
The only strange thing is the 7dB difference in DS Attenuation as measured by the 2 routers. 2 or maybe 3 would be more usual. You could try upgrading the firmware on the routers or try them on your neighbours line. Also suggest using the Netgear and something like this:
