Well I took Oranges upgrade for £20 and ended up with a 4.5mb line, not bad you may say since I live a few miles from the exchange and in the sticks so to speak. Now all started well I use my own router (DG834 v3) and after a slow start my line speed increased, now the problem was Orange put me on a new tariff called IT ONLY WORKS IN DAYLIGHT! OK not there fault as such its a BT ADSL MAX enabled exchange but after 6pm no chance SNR margin was 0db and my line dropped to the point it wasn't worth having it on and this was well after the ten day settling in period. I called Orange technical support and I use that term loosely as after a number of calls over two weeks I received various excuses, some said they would do a line check some said the tool was not working some said it was not ordered some said as I was not using their equipment I couldn't have one done, so BT were called at my expense and my line was tested after an engineer came round (£113) he said they can test without a livebox and that they should have ordered it through BT in the first place but really I was to far from the exchange, now low and behold Orange now said my maximum line speed was 2mb on their site and to change speed as I had done before was now free, thing was I didnt read the small print so I got stuck in a new contract I was with Freeserve originally and have not had a contract for years now I'm on 2mb the fastest my line can go, not the 4.5mb I was on and after writing to Orange customer complaints and their CEO I have heard nothing. All in all I feel cheated and angry with what I would call the worst ISP on the market at this time, but this of course is just my opinion and I should have looked more closely at their terms and conditions, so beware the ADSL MAX upgrade and look elsewhere for your ISP
