Currently I have Livebox downstairs and a second PC upstairs connected using wireless adapter. I'm getting more disappointed by the wireless performance so am thinking of dropping it in favour of a wired connection.
Rather than sling a cable through the house, I am contemplating buying a second router for upstairs. If I bought an an ADSL/router (e.g. Netgear 834) to use with the upstairs PC (there is a phone socket in the upstairs study), would this setup work or would there be any issues with having the livebox downstairs connected to the internet at the same time?
My initial thought is that as the Livebox works on 192.168.1.x, the second router would perhaps need to be configured on 192.168.0.x, but other than that I'm not sure what other issues there might be.
I would be interested to hear if anyone else has used another router as well as Livebox (but not linked together) with their broadband.
This wouldn't work, there can only be one ADSL modem/router connected to the line at once.
One possible option is to use one of the new powerline ethernet kits. You stick an adapter in a power socket near the livebox and connect an ethernet cable between then. Near the computer another adapter and ethernet to the PC, the data is then transferred through the power cables of the house between devices. Simple to setup and pretty unobtrusive.
Hi Elhana,
Thanks for your reply. I've seen the powerline ethernet kits advertised on a well known website and will have a look into that option. I've also changed my livebox back to channel 11 (somehow it had reset to ch.1) to see if that helps. The other thing I might try is swap out the Inventel wireless adaptor to see if that makes a difference.
