Suddenly last night it wouldn't work and still won't this morning! Am on 0121 Birmingham exchange and now online via an OLD dialup connection - so slow - how did we ever manage!
Don't use their modem (ancient copperjet) - it never worked well when we went to XP. Bought a superb netgear router a few years back.
I am horrified by all the stories on this site. Have always thought I was quite good with puters - but don't understand all this PPP & LLU stuff.
Could someone please explain?
I haven't tried TS yet - still have that pleasure to come!

I'm no expert but this is my basic take on the meaning of -
LLU is Local Loop Unbundling which I think means Orange have taken over former BT lines at exchanges for their broadband customers use.
PPP is Point to Point Protocol which is the method used to transmit data over the internet
Basically your phone line is no longer connecting your computer to the Orange's servers as it should do. PPP errors are be generated because data is not being received when requested.
Apparently 60,000 odd customers are currently affected by a major fault on the Orange LLU lines.
I'm in London and my broadband went down yesterday afternoon and is still down.
How much do we know about what's causing this? I've seen the problems others have been having (though I've been ok so far thank goodness) and I've heard tales that it could take months to fix. Is this really true? If so, is the nature of the problem such that swapping ISPs is the answer?
I'm assuming if it is a central Orange thing, it should be reasonably easy to fix, but if it's a question of their going around each exchange and fiddling, that could indeed take months.

My Orange broadband's been off since October the 6th now... I'm absolutely fed up with Orange (they even "accidentally" disconnected my mobile from the network a couple weeks back)- they don't seem to know what is going on any more than I do- apparently my ADSL fault has gone to a "higher level" and the tech support team have no idea what is going on... I have been fed this rubbish for the last 2 and a half weeks now, and my broadband was only on for Three weeks before that- took them over a month after I moved house to sort it out...
So seeing as I've stumbled upon this forum and have realised how appaling Orange truly are, I'm phoning BT as soon as I get in to see what they can offer me...
