Supposed to be 6 months for everyone who gets the upgrade automatically to be done, 2 meg connections are automatic, no idea about the rest.
No details of what order. Could be by area but that may cause delays with BT so I'd expect them to spead them out by going for some other option, oldest accounts first maybe or some system which works out which accounts have the highest probability of "churn" (going to someone else). Or they may just do it at random.
That option is no longer in my meber centre, it appeared for a few days and then went.
it would be nice if Orange were half organised and were able to tell you when you would be upgraded. If they were properly customer focused they would be able to.
My guess is it won't take the full 6 months but they put that to allow for any problems cropping up when migrating so many people.
I'd suggest checking back on the member centre every so often as the option seems to come and go, probably has a system to limit how many people try and upgrade per day/week so it's not overloaded. You may want to try again in a couple of weeks.
It's got something to do with BT from what I've read elsewhere
BT don't want to be swamped with requests for bulk migrations to they are limiting the number so as to spread the load.
Some ISPs (Orange did but it's disappeared) allow you to jump the queue with a small fee. In this case your request is individual and not part of a bulk scheme to BT process it straight away.

Thats pretty much right, although I expect Orange don't want to be swamped as well if something goes wrong.
It does sound like the disappearing upgrade option is to enforce some form of limit on the upgrades, though would of been better to say so on the page if that is the case.
I have a vague memory of back when ADSL Max came in and about a month after the BT mass migration tool had some problem and couldn't be used for a while. PlusNet had migrated about 20,000 in that time I believe, thats quite a lot and it's just one ISP, just imagine the amount of work for BT if Orange tried to do all their lines at once, about 950,000 at last public count.
Be nice to have an idea when being upgraded whether worth paying £20 now if not going to be for 5-6 moths yet.
If I ring CS would they upgrade me if option not on the member centre?
Hmm doubt it, if you ring to upgrade they just do it through the member centre for you unless there's some sort of fault that means it has to be escalated. Anyway I highly recommend you wait a couple of weeks and then check again.
Orange are currently going through the LLU process to provide the 8MB package. They have already implemented this in my area in South London and the speed is actually a lot worse than I got on the Max package. I went from 2MB to 0.5MB. Orange said this is something they are working on but would not give me a date as to when the speed would get up to something reasonable, or even something like the speed you are paying for. I left Orange and will put up with the incovenience of being without broadband for 10-20days just to get a decent service provider.
LLU is promising in the long-term but Orange don't seem equipped to do this successfully. They cut a large number of staff when Wanadoo became Orange and the service is being rolled out in the most ham-fisted manner imaginable. Good luck to you if you're getting a decent service but it makes me wonder just what the service will be like in more rural or remote areas if they are making a balls-up in the cities, which provide the majoirty of Orange's customer base.
