I have read the posts on this site for months now but i now feel i have to join in as the service form Orange is getting worse. I am a long time customer of Orange that was origianlly Freeserve(how i miss them). I have stayed with the changes that have occured but i am seriously angry now with the service that i have received since my upgade to LLU on 8 meg. When this happened the first problem was that i was only receiving a 4 meg signal on my line (2.3km from exchange) and a download speed of 220 kbps. I enquired about this and was told that was the maximum speed i can receive. I accepted this.
I then changed my modem to a speedtouch 330 from one of those old lillypad look-a-likes. Now in the evenings starting from around 6pm the modem or server would resynch down from 4 meg to about 3.6meg or 3.5 meg, cutting me off in the process about every 30 mins. Also every other week i would be cut off for hours with several fault codes, 0621,0718,0721. When speaking to the technical help line they would always state my line test was ok and that it must be a problem with my computer. I have put up with this since early May. A couple of weeks ago i was in the process of applying for a job online when the above problem occured. I was furious and decided that this is it, i was paying 27.99 for the unlimited package and i was getting a crap service, so i rang Orange to demand a MAC code. I spoke to a lady who said she would pass me to a person who could help me, this was obviously her supervisor as she proceeded to offer me a better deal on my broadband. She said she could send me a livebox and that i could aslo keep my package of unlimited downloads for a reduced price of 17.99. I accepted the offer and the livebox arrived 6 days later. I then tried to load the software that came with the box, at the very end of the procedure it stated the set could not be completed and advised me to start again. I carried on and the computer tried to connect to the livebox. Guess what? A connection could not be made as a firewall was still on, which it wasnt. That was as far as i got and i went back the usb set up. After reading post on here how if you have xp you do not need to load the software supplied and that if you connect the livebox up and go to a http server you could configure the livebox and get it going by registering your username and password. This seemed to work at first, but after an hour i was getting cut off from the internet every other 2 minutes. Sometimes the ethernet icon at the bottom of the screen would have a small yellow triangle stating that i have a limited connection. Even when the icon stated no problem i cannot get on the the internet.
This is really ridiculous now and if anyone has read all of my ramblings i would appreciate any suggestions on rectifying the problem or of any better alternatives for the same price.
Thanks for any help in advance.
ps. In the middle of typing all the above i got cut off using the 330 modem and luckily copied the text before it shutdown.

I've read your post and you have my sympathy! I had 12 months of 100% up time with Wanadoo, and never had any problems-not a single one. At the same time that they were bought by Orange they also started the LLU project at my exchange, and then absolute chaos was the order of the day. My line was only capable of supporting 5.5meg and not 8 but that didn't bother me too much as I'd been fine on only 2 meg anyway previously. I would get constant disconnections and no connection at all at peak times. This got progressivly worse to the point that I could only get on line between the hours of 1am and 9am!!! I called "tech support" all the time and would get the usual line test promises and taken through the same steps each time. SPOKEN TO LIKE A CHILD!! If I asked any questions that weren't on their sheets they were absolutely lost!! After approx. 50 calls I lost my patience and decided to cancel. I was put through to another department who suggested my Belkin wireless router was the problem-which I knew wasn't the case, but decided to give Orange one last roll of the dice when they said they would send me a live box that would 'cure all my problems'............. this was meant to arrive by last Friday, but surprise surprise nothing showed up!! I rang yesterday to find out where it was and they had no record of ever promising me it!! That was the final straw, and I told them to stick it!!
Sorry if I've rambled a bit but it's driven me mad! I too am now searching for an isp but need one that doesn't have a 12 month contract as I'm moving in January. Best of luck!!
