it appears that I am experiencing similar problems to other users i.e. emails that I send are not getting to their destinations and i'm not receiving a bounce back message.
I've had advice that this is because the Orange ISP is being blocked by spamcop (and other anti-spam software) because it has been blacklisted. I am paying for a service I'm not getting and as others have said I'm not getting any help from technical support. I called yesterday and was on the phone to someone for 20 minutes (who didn't speak english particularly well) who ended up referring me back to the website. Could have saved the cost of the call! Can anyone help - or do I need to cancel Orange and go to a different service provider.
Only two things will fix this: Orange, or changing ISP.
Guess which is probably going to be quickest.....
If you don't receive a bounce, but the recipient doesn't get the message, that suggests that it may have been processed as spam - e.g. delivered to a spam folder, or even just dumped without trace. It all depends how the recipients mail is processed.

Seriously, get in touch with the BLOCKING company, rather than the ISP, its simple....
It isn't simple Orange doesnt answer any queries whatsoever im sure if someone rang CS or TS and explain the email situation they will ask you to uninstall reinstall reboot line test the script goes on LOL, but nuffin about why Orange emails are being bounced get real.

marshapc, if you mean us customers getting in touch with, in this case, SpamCop then there is no point. Orange have to do that when they have taken steps to stop spam emanating from their smtp servers. If you mean getting in touch with the recipient's site - you're right - it is often possible to have your email address "white listed" but its a hell of a faff. Doing this is just treating the symptoms and not the underlying cause.

When Wanadoo took over Freeserve thats when my spam gathered pace then they changed their name to Orange no difference of course same company even more spam over 1000 a day at one point so i rang Orange they wasn't interested (someone at tech support overseas even said if i used a livebox it would stop the spam i didn't no wether to laugh cry or call an ambulance) but said i could cancel my account and open a new one there and then with a new 12 month contract and new email address of course i refused i aint that stupid so i stopped using my Freeserve email address which ide had for 4 years because the spam was horrendous, what i did was i opened a free webmail account on the Tiscali portal site can be used with POP3 in Outlook and Outlook Express Thunderbird and whoever which worked well until i changed ISP its inconvenient but i was spam free from then on and not on any blacklists.
(my Freeserve/Wanadoo/Orange email account is still open and is still inundated with spam lol

The first issue is that Orange's outging mail server's IP address continues to be blacklisted by spamcop and others. This is because spam continues to come out of the Orange network and needs Orange to take further steps to control it.
The second issue is the level of spam received by Orange customers and the effectiveness of Orange's own spam management tools. If you havn't already done so, turn on the spam filtering using Orange webmail. I have noticed a definate improvement in accuracy over the past few months but still a lot gets through.

I am no longer with Orange so its not an issue with me anymore but for the record the spam tools never made the slightest difference whatsoever and as you can only block 100 at a time it really wasn't adequate its a shame Orange still doesn't take responsibility for this problem but anyway thanks for your response

Had the same problem see below
Watch out for your connection ip address being blacklisted (See below)
Have exactly this problem. My email address has been hijacked back last November. I started to get 1000s of undelivered messages. I spoke many many times to Orange about the problem and they said there was nothing they could do about it. I requested that they changed my Email address on the account but they told me this was not possible. I created another email account which I started to use and created as many filters/blocks on the old address as was possible and the problem seemed to die down. The truth was that it was just hiding the fact that the address was still being used by someone spamming. I have now got a problem that due to Many many complaints that Spam Cop and Google have received relating to the Hijacked Email address that they have blacklisted the IP address that Orange have on their server for by Broadband connection (Thats Orange's IP address not mine). This means that any email I send to people who are using Spamcop or Google data bases in their Spam filtering, are rejected.
Orange maintain that they cannot change the IP address they hold on their server for my account. I suggested that they close my account and start me a new one but they say it would mean me being without a service for 20 odd days at least.
I was quite interested in taking the Mobile offer of Free unlimited Broadband, All land line calls free (Via broadband line), and mega free calls and texts on the mobile for £40 a month but I now find that all they do is changed the direct debit and retain the existing Broadband account. Thus the problem of blacklisting still exists. I also understand that the talk packaga cannot have a redirect set to send calls to the mobile.
Anyone know different or does anyone know a way to stop the blacklisting?

The only way out is to change provider if Orange can't or won't resolve this problem opening another account free or not isn't going to solve it as eventually it will hit the new account and you will be in the same position if your not in a contract leave why pay for this kind of service?

I too now get regular Spamcop rejections / undelivered mail reports of my emails. I do 2 to 3 days work from home per week and email the office, but now spamcop, used by my employer, has started to regularly block email communication from home. This perplexed our IT Dept for some time (not helped by the inability to email them the 'undelivered mail' reports). What they have advised is that Freeserve / Wannado / Orange IP servers are a recognised source of spam and that ORANGE NEED TO DO SOMETHING ABOUT GETTING OFF THE SPAM SOURCE LIST. Our IT Dept informed me it's not my home PC that is the problem (they licence me to have office approved anti-virus at home), it's the Freeserve / Wannado IP servers being exploited by the spammers. I've had to use a hotmail account to get round the problem. If readers have not yet signed a years broadband contract with Orange, they might think about signing elsewhere. I'm afraid I'm stuck with it for a year.

Hi sorry to hear your stuck with them my freeserve email addy was unusable because of the spam but what i did i went on the Tiscali portal opened a free webmail account because its pop enabled i just replaced it in outlook express for 6 months up till i migrated from Orange it was reliable and no spam emails in that time i still had to send via Orange smtp servers though but Orange emails wasnt being blocked then like it is now.
Another alternative is google mail which is pop enabled and you use their servers.

I am having same problem with a USA recipient. He has checked with his provider and got the following reply:
We are blocking the IP Andrew is trying to send from for name space mining:
Because Andrew is sending from an SMTP server that is somewhat public, it is
impossible for him to control that IP's access to our server. Unfortunately,
that SMTP is being abused by spammers. Looking over two of our 7 accepting
servers, 57 messages were delivered from that IP to our server, 3 were
accepted, and the other 54 were blocked for name space mining. Of the 54 that
were blocked, the two messages from Andrew were the only ones that were even
sent to legitimate addresses. We can unblock the IP from our name space
mining list, but it is likely to be blocked agin almost immediately, and with
this level of spam traffic vs. legitimate from that IP, we cannot add it to an
IP whitelist.
We apologize for the inconvenience, but Andrew will not be able to send
messages to our mail server with any reliable success.
Had long session with Orange last night who stated that they do not support Microsoft Outlook but do support Outlook Express and that I should change. As a computer nerd I rather stupidly followed their instructions and now seem to have the 2 programmes operating. However my existing Microsoft Outlook still seems to be the leading one so guess I haven't done any lasting damage!
Given Orange's level of cluelessness, (last time I looked they were still allowing 'out of office' NDR bounces for instance), the best thing anyone can do is to migrate to a smaller, more switched on ISP such as Newnet or IDNET etc.).
Another good alternative would be to register your own domain with one of the registrar/hosts such as freeparking.co.uk for example and that will give you your own domain email facilities including the use of the host's SMTP server. (Mind, with Orange's system of capturing all port 25 traffic incoming to their portal, whoever you choose has to allow SMTP traffic on an alternative port).
Given the horrendous level of spam on the internet the smaller, more switched on ISP's who offer static IP's as standard, monitor their networks for zombie activity & correctly configure their mailservers are always going to offer the most reliable service compared to an outfit like Orange who seem completely paralysed by the problems.
