I run a website for former pupils of my school and have now got around 370 former pupils registered.
The site was originally hosted by Freeserve, then Wanadoo and now Orange.
I hadn't realised Orange had taken over Wanadoo as I don't use that email address now. But I contacted Orange technical help-line when I noticed my website was down.
Because I hadn't dialed in to the new number for a few weeks I needed to reactivate which I did successfully, now being able to connect via Orange dial-up pay-as-you go and receive emails from that account OK.
However I have been unable to find out if my website files have been deleted or not.
The Orange help-desk tells me to contact MySite (not sure what this is or why I can't use my own FTP programme like I used to with Freeserve and Wanadoo?)
But MySite refuses to discuss my problem and points me back to the Orange support page!
This is so frustrating that I can't get a simple answer from anyone at Orange. At least if I knew that my website was lost I could make other plans for a new website.
But if my files are still available somewhere this would be great.
Does anyone have any clue on what I could do to find out about my website please?
Yes, the username and password are the same as the dial-up ones.
The connection will be refused from non-orange IP addresses, so you have to be using an Orange dial-up or broadband internet connection to "get through".
That "530" response implies either that your username is wrong (and I doubt it) or your account no longer exists on the upload server. If your website is no longer visble, then I doubt if Orange will restore it for you. The only other thing I can think of is that the server settings I use, that date from my 1999 freeserve account, are different to the ones you were using. Perhaps others can confirm or deny this?
If I didn't know how little effort it took to be more helpful than Orange, I'd be flattered by your last comment.
Your login is not username as in your example - it's all the bits after the @. eg. If your email address is username@restofname.freeserve.co.uk then your ftp login is restofname.freeserve.co.uk - with your usual password.

Sorry D-Dan my post was confusing, I did in fact use the 'restofname.freeserve.co.uk' username without success.
I agree that it looks like my account and website has been deleted for some reason but surely there is someone at Orange who could confirm this?
