Well, I've finally done it - hopefully I'm now an ex-Orange customer!
After being offline for five weeks, my connection suddenly came back without warning on Sunday 27th Aug. It worked for all of six days before dying again on Saturday 2nd Sep.
That was the final straw, so this morning I have asked them to cancel my account.
They say it will take ten working days to release my line, which I think is a ridiculously long time. Has anyone else managed to get this done more quickly?
I also spoke to Sky (as I have already got my BAND number from them), but they can't start to process my order until the line is clear. So it looks like I'm offline for at least a month
If anyone has any tips on how to get the line cleared quicker, I'd be forever grateful.

Hi Andrew you probably done the right thing as it seems at the moment they are giving people dud LLU MAC codes anyway and cancelling has probably saved you a fortune in phone calls and preventing you from going round the bend by these morons lol your well rid of them cut ya losses and run mate those 10 days will be well worth it, if their markers aint gone from ur line in 10 days contact the ISPA .
Good Luck
Steve

That's news to me. What's an LLU MAC code? I was under the impression that if I had been LLUed, I would have to cancel the line and start again from scratch with a new supplier.
I thought MAC codes were only any use if you were still getting your connection through BT.

If your exchange is LLUed you get an LLU MAC code the only difference from the other MACs is that it takes 10 days to complete the migration but no downtime then you dont have to pay an activation charge to ur new provider i got one from Orange, but some call centres make it as awkward as possible to obtain one some saying they dont provide em anymore which is total rubbish. Also some providers wont accept an LLU MAC but theres quiet a few that do, sadly Orange have taken to giving some customers invalid MACs which is shameful.

I dont know best to ring them and ask but before you commit yaself do some research and read the terms and conditions and what "Free" means check other ISP's etc visit here DSL ZoneUK it will avoid jumping out the frying pan into the fire' having said that i dont think anyone can be worse than Orange lol

I've researched Sky extensively and am happy with what they are offering.
www.skyuser.co.uk is a great source of information for anyone planning to switch.
The Fair Use Policy seems OK. There's no actual limit stated for the uncapped service (£10 per month) but concensus seems to be 100Gb would be OK. I'm not likely to use that much, but a 40Gb cap would be a pain.
I also found the answer to one of my questions there - they don't accept MACs for LLUed customers.
My main question is still whether there's anything I can do to speed up the cease request on my line as Sky won't let me sign up until the marker's off my line.

Well, I'll keep everyone posted on when the marker is removed from my line to give others an idea of how long it takes.
There is one positive thing - I tried signing into the member centre and it said that as I have cancelled my account I can no longer view my online statements.
I cancelled too and just hoping it only takes the ten days to remove the marker.. think I read on here someone having to wait a whole month.
Did they arrange to have your livebox picked up? Customer support said they would ring me today to tell me what time and to sort out my refund but haven't heard nothing.. should of known better
Even though it's gonna cost me a few quid to get myself sorted with a new ISP I couldn't be happier!
They never even mentioned the Livebox. If they want it, they can come and get it or send me a prepaid pouch to send it back.
I actually spoke to someone in customer relations. I had called the number on the letter they sent me after I had made my complaint to the ISPA, so I didn't actually speak to customer support.
Now I'm wondering how I will know when they've removed the marker from my line. I'm guessing that the livebox will stop showing the 'PPP Server Down' message or perhaps the light will stop flashing and go out completely. Anybody know?
i think the @ light flashes between fast and slow (seem to remeber than when I was waiting on my bb being activated)

If anyone's following my progress of escaping from the Orange beast, here's the latest.
After requesting cancellation of my connection yesterday, I decided to ring BT this afternoon to see if the request had been made to remove their marker from my line.
To my surprise, it has been, and BT tell me it should be completed by Sept 11th. Not bad, that would only be the 5th working day after my request and I was told 10.
Orange have finally done something right! They've actually gone up in my estimation!
So hopefully I can place my order with Sky next Monday - a whole week earlier than I was expecting!
