don't suppose anyone could tell me how to sort out my email account? it's been used to spam and i'm getting a load of underlivered emails returned to me... I have approx 150K in my inbox at the moment and the 1GB limit i have is almost used up!!
it won't let me delete any because it keeps saying the mailserver is busy.. can't even connect to my account using outlook!
is there anyway i can disable the account or something??
As a security engineer I can tell you that you are not alone and one of the very few who actually realises that your account has been compromised.
First and foremost you need to ensure that the PC you use most frequently to access your account is completely virus free. If you don't already have anti-virus installed check out Microsoft Security Essentials, it's free and one of the best out there (I also use the immunize feature in Spybot Search and Destroy to minimise the risk of nasty adware infecting my machine).
Once you have confirmed that your machine is free of any nasties you MUST change your password immediately (It's also good practice to chage it on any sites where you use the same password), this will stop the attacker from using your account any more. Alternatively you could change your password first on a different machine but you must be absolutely certain that it is clean.
Lastly you need to assess the way you use your computer/internet as if you don't change your habits then it is bound to happen again. Keeping your OS & anti-virus up to date is a must. Don't click on any untrusted links and NEVER enter your personal details in to a site without first checking that the domain in the URL bar is 100% correct.
