Other than it being connected with the install CD.....I'm out of ideas
There is malware that would cause it, I guess, but for different machines at different times to display the same symptoms then the common factor is only the install CD.
the machine I delivered back last night never went near the CD, but that worked ok. It was one of the livebox triangle shaped routers.
with regards to the problem at the other place, he has re-installed the software a few times before I got there as he didn't know you could get the info into the router any other way. So his machine had the software, my laptop didn't - neither worked.
That also doesn't explain the playstation 3 not working either. It's as though anything sent via port 80 for http is being blocked. I turned off the firewall in the router and on the pc but neither made a difference.

I had most of your symptoms that appeared the day Orange upgraded our account to 8 mbs.
- two of Three computers on the home network not reaching websites.
- website just not responding but no time out errors
- Getting to Google was
- email was Ok
* Wat fixed it was changing the DSL - ADSL setup on the Modem from Auto to ADSL 2+ . This is a netgear DG834G (ADSL with 5 way hub)
What didnt fix it was:
- Swapping ports of the PC that worked
- Forcing new IPS from the router DNS
- Upgrading IE to V8
- Calling Orange twice
