Reading through this forum and having been in contact with Orange customer support over the last few months and days it is apparent I am experiencing nearly identical problems to many other users here regarding online gaming issues.
My internet speed and browsing are (mostly*) fine during the day and when peak time nears suddenly online gaming (on the xbox 360) becomes impossible and my download/upload speeds plummet whilst my ping will skyrocket. Mostly the connection slows to a near halt but lately it jumps around seemingly randomly between 1meg and 3.5 (on our 4.5 meg package).
*Lately even now as i'm typing this (around 12pm on a sunday) my connection has started to become erratic or sluggish during the day and even though my internet browsing is fine, with the exception of videos buffering at a slower rate, online gaming becomes impossible.
Having been in contact with customer support numerous times in the past for the same issue and numerous times in the last few days, I have found that the only thing customer support is capible of is agreeing with everything you say and then ordering a line test. When I call back to hear the result is (as usual) an all clear test with no fualts and inform them i'm still having the same problem they will order another line test. According the a man I spoke with today there are no restrictions on my acount and there is nothing he can do except oreder another line test.
Has anyone had any joy with Orange and online gaming? next time i'm prompted to ring back and the line test is all clear I shall be asking to either be put through to someone who knows what they are talking about or the the department that can cancell my account.
I just thought i'de add for anyone reading this that: I have rang and rang and rang again for 3 days calling back everytime tests were finished and i recieved a text. Eventually I spoke to a person based in the uk and a technichan will be at my house in under 24 to check the line all the way from the exchange to my house.
Result? If the problem really is a technical fault, then yes. If it is as many on this site believe Orange placing restrictions, then at least I may be able to report back saying so and maybe have some extra info from the technichan.

I currently own a Orange livebox with an "up to 8mb" connection. I game alot and i am experiencing lag on my xbox 360. My connection can vary from 2 bar lag meter to 4 ba lag meter depending on the time of day. My connection should be fantstic as it is up to 8mb but even with one laptop and 1 xbox on i lag at an incredible rate. It makes it very unfair in games as i cannot shoot properly and my bullets cannot register on enemies. Can anyone help? As gaming is my hobby i cant not do it and i get extremely frustarted when i cant because of a connection which should be fantastic.

Your problem is most likely a contention issue. You share your Broadband with up to 49 other users and at likely busy periods everybody and their dog is spanking the internet when they get home or after dinner or when theres nothing on the TV etc. You could try moving to another ISP or paying for a less contended circuit but that can be expensive. NOt sure what Orange can do but ask them about it mate.
I've pretty much stopped all online gaming for the last eight months because of my ping. I suppose they don't think it's an issue that my ping is 68. I have to go round to a friends house to play COD, and my scores are almost double what I get at my home. Very depressing.
