The DSLAM controls the sync speed and tells the DLM this speed which in turn then decides if it is stable for your line, it doesnt control the speed directly. It only gives guidelines for the DSLAM to follow. Because the DSLAM is syncing you you 9Mb, the DSLAM will tell the DLM this and it will monitor the line at that rate. Because you reboot at that speed your lucky it doesnt interpret this as a loss of sync and downgrade your profile. The only thing in your favour is that when you reboot, the DSLAM is able to resync you at 12Mb therefore your profile doesn't get chance to be effected by the DLM due to the fact your then able to sustain a 12Mb connection for a few weeks.
Those 2 statements are contradictory.
The DLM should "forget" the 12meg profile but it is still allowing the DSLAM access to use it. The DLM software is obviously still flawed.
As BroadbandKing has repeatedly rebooted, the DLM is not seeing this as instability......yet another indication that the software is still flawed.
Sorry yeah it didn't quite come out as I intended. Thats what I was trying to say though, the fact that he can sustain a 12Mb connection means that the DLM doesn't get chance to monitor his 9Mb connection due to his reboot and hence doesn't downgrade the profile.
DLM says back to 9 meg
I say reboot back to 12 meg
DLM says back to 9 meg
I say reboot back to 12 meg!!!
I've emailed Orange YET again and told them that the DLM is not working.
How can I have almost 3 days of steady 12.5 meg since Fri afternoon and yet the DLM insists in downgrading me. On what grounds, what evidence.
Getting real sick of the whole saga now!
Sky and o2 (now Sky) I believe can manually adjust your noise margin via a phone call there and then. Orange can't!!
In fact in my case it is better for me to switch my router off overnight, switch it on in the morning, negotiate the 12.5 meg speed with the DSLAM and take it from there.
And if I could, somehow programme the router to reboot after the DLM resyncs my line.
After my forced reboot at 1:15pm (AGAIN!!!) to put the DLM back in its place, here are my stats which have been like this for the last 3 hours or so.
ADSL Link Downstream Upstream
Connection Speed 12560 kbps 1187 kbps
Line Attenuation 31.8 db 7.3 db
Noise Margin 9.3 db 7.3 db
Now all I want is the DLM just to ignore me, go away, leave me in peace!
My line is fine, I am happy with my speed, I don't want any resyncs, so leave me be!
If the DLM does not intervene, my line will keep those figures quite happily and will run all week, all weekend, all month.
I have emailed the exec office to inform them what is happening, no reply as such but if this bl asted DLM kicks in tomorrow and downgrades me again, I might just blow up my exchange to get the litte ********!!
Bacially, in same boat as many other users, speed decrease.......
It's not my end hardware or software wise.....
It's not LLU in Andover Exchange......
All, I was after was someone at Orange to say, yes there is an issue and we are working on the issue.
Bottom line, is DLM needs working on......... which they are doing as fast as they can......so I am happy now, knowing that my speeds will be back up to normal at least in next 2 weeks.
So although, I am at :-
Downstream
Noise Margin: 18.7 dB
Connection Rate: 2046 Kbps
Line Attenuation: 43.0 dB <--I know high-->
Power: 18.9 dBm
Max Rate: 10621 Kbps
I know my will be back to at leat 8000Kbps downstream soon...... (And with FTTC being enable in Andover End July 2010, who knows maybe 14/15000Kbps??)
DGTeam DG834GT new firmware installed....... some nice new touches and one I am currently looking into more:-
Impulse noise protection (phyRe)
Enabling this option, it will be possible to remove impulse noises from copper line through the phyRe (Fire) technology: see Broadcom website for more details.
If you encounter any trouble using this feature, or if your line status is good enough as itself, mantain the default state.
The reason, I like router stats; because you can see and log connection.
Sorry Del, I know this was @Tim.....but that setting is wacky

I think you're being too hopeful re.the 2 weeks.
And with an attenuation of 43dB you are borderline for an ADSL2+ connection. You may be better off downing to G.992.3.
You should not be able to re-synch higher than what the DLM requires......that proves it is still not repaired.
On the BT system even if any noise/instability has cleared up, if the IP Profile has not increased then you cannot re-synch at a higher speed.
Yes exactly! Therefore either the DLM is still faulty like you suggest or the cause of BBKs resyncs is not the DLMs doing at all. The DLM couldn't have told the DSLAM to resync at 9Mb as when you reboot you wouldn't be able to get back to 12Mb as your profile would have been changed as Borednow says.
With an SNR of 9db, it could decrease quite suddenly to a level where your modem can no longer hold sync. It may just be bursts of line noise causing the instability and restricting the number of bits that can be loaded at that time.
