Looks like the new DLM has shifted things along - I've resynched again, and am now back to my usual 4/5MEG speed, so as long as the DLM is solid, we might begin to be able to draw a line over this one!
Whilst the DLM was a disaster, Orange, at least once I got past the overseas callcentres, did provide a good level of service with callbacks, etc.
I'd love to have your 10MEG speed, BroadbandKing, but that's what I get for living in Devon
Just thought I would let you all know, as of Wednesday I was let out of my contract with Orange and signed up with another ISP.
2 hours after getting my MAC Fault Management rang me to say they had manually reset my profile ... and yes they had in fact reset it to what I had been asking for, only problem being, it was nearly 4 weeks too late.
I do have to say that David in the Exec Office was without doubt the most helpfully person I dealt with out of i would guess 20+ people within Orange.
Good Luck with the rest of you, I hope things get sorted for you.

Just received this email from the executive office.
"Each speed profile used by our DLM system takes a number of factors into
account and allows a set tolerance before deciding that a profile change is
required. At this time, none of our DLM profiles are set to include an SNR
Margin as low as 6dB.
Whilst I can appreciate why you would want to get the fastest speed possible
out of your line, the above decision was made with the aim of providing the
highest levels of stability, rather than aiming for the highest headline
speeds.
As part of our Fair Usage Policy, we request that customers avoid heavy
downloading during peak hours and may restrict the speed of customers who we
feel regularly have very high usage. Whilst there is currently no set limit,
we keep an eye on customers using more than 20GB per month, with more than
5GB of which being at peak times.
If this level of high usage continues over two consecutive months, we may
contact them to request they reduce their usage, or in some cases we may
reduce their download speeds at peak times until their level of usage
decreases."
This interesting in 2 terms.
Firstly BBK was told that 0range's aim was for a 6dB SNRMargin so someone in 0range has got it wrong.
Secondly so much for unlimited. There's no mention whatsoever in any online or written documentation to these figures. The FUP does request that heavy downloading is not done during peak times which is fine but nothing about limits. Although the word "may" is used it's rather worrying and I'll admit to being well over their limit.
Tim, Looks like your email from the exec office is the one I am waiting for!
I too had asked why I had been told that they would be aiming for 6dB on my line but I was not getting that. I was told to expect an official statement from Orange on the matter.
I also asked about fair usage, download limits etc, again I was told to expect a statement from Orange. I guess I will get the same email!
Also what exactly are Orange's peak hours? Some ips are 8:00am till midnight, some 5pm till midnight but what about Orange?
20Gb is a bit stingy for a fair usage policy and there is nothing in their online fair usage conditions that state anything that is mentioned in your email.
Quite worrying!
On a positive note, since I was upped to 12.5 meg down, 1.1 meg up, my web browsing is a lot faster. On the manual profile, pages would stick esp with images contained in the page, now the page downloads as one, much slicker!

It doesn't actually say that :-

borednow, what I mean is that 20Gb is indeed stingy if that is the trigger they use to look at people's accounts. Plus in their fair usage policy online, there is nothing that goes into that detail.
Take this week for example, I have downloaded 4 demos from the PS Store, each one was just under 2Gb, these were done around tea time.
So my account will now be looked at?

Possibly yes, because you downloaded 8meg in one week during the peak time.
Alternatively, if this was the first time you've done this then they probably have a way of marking you for further monitoring and if it becomes routine then they'll have you....same as the 20gig....if you routinely download more than 20gig that's when they'll tackle you.
What I meant in my earlier post was that 20gig is only the trigger point for Orange to monitor you more closely....it doesn't mean that 20gig is an upper limit.
