I'm still stuck at 1MEG, after almost 2 months, and still getting run around the houses!
Got a call today from senior faults management in the UK and, after all this time, and DESPITE me telling them about the DLM problem, they still insist on telling me it might be a problem with my wiring. A fault that just happened to start the day I changed my package?
They DID say that they will call back in 3 days to see if any improvement, and if not, they will put a manual profile on, so hopefully some resolution pending, either that or the DLM finally kicks in.
Looks like I'll have to give it another week or so before I ask for my MAC code, as I'm far from confident this will ever get resolved! Seems that only BroadbandKing has had any luck at all with this problem...

It seems they're deliberately delaying things; they damn well know nothing's going to change
Until recently (17/02/10) I was on the 'up to 8Mb package' usng a Speedtouch usb modem. Then I changed to the Home Select 'up to 20Mb' using the SE572 wireless router supplied by Orange. For the first few days I was getting download speeds of 10Mb with no apparent problems. This has now reduced to 6Mb which is only 50% more than previously. I am less than 1 mile from the BT exchange (I think LLU). I don't know how to obtain my line statistics - they don't seem available on this router. I know many of you would be happy with what I now have but my query is - is it worth pursuing what seems a long winded process with Orange to get back to 10Mb or am I lkely to end up worse off? My account shows the line supports 7.5Mb. Why when I had 10Mb? Advice for a relative novice would be appreciated.
The system maybe testing your line for the most stable speed hence why it is dropping in rate. This usually goes on for 10 days. (They supposed to do this when you change package.)
What exchange are you connected to?
To get your line stats on the Siemens you go to:
http://<LAN Address>
Replace <LAN Address> with the address of your router. I think the default for the Siemens is 192.168.2.1 or 192.168.1.1
Login with the default password "admin"
The stats are located under Status > Internet
Also it maybe the DLM problem that all here have encountered. Our speeds have gradually dropped to a crawl (1Mb in my case) and will not increase. I hope this isn't going to effect you, although hopefuly the problem should be sorted soon!
Also keep your router switched on if possible. Try to refrain from restarting it too frequently. The system will interpret this as a loss in connection and may drop your connection speed, thinking your line is unstable.
Orange will be making an official statement regarding their DLM and the problems that many of their customers are having.
I have been told that I will be emailed this statement and then I can put that statement on here.
It does look I have been lucky enough to get a manual profile of 12meg put through and even though I was told that this would be applied as an interim solution to other customers while the DLM is being rewritten, it does look like anything else Orange have to say or do on the matter has to be put through Orange's pr department.
As soon as I get this statement, I will put it on here......
Thanks andyzid (andyb).
I'm on Kings Norton exchange Birmingham.
I'd somehow managed to miss the info on the router. In case anyone cares to comment here are the line stats
ADSL Line
Status: Cable connected
Line mode: G.992.5 (ADSL2+)
Maximum line rate: 7666 kbps (downstream) / 1225 kbps (upstream)
Noise margin: 25 dB (downstream) / 4294965278 dB (upstream)
Line attenuation: 21 dB (downstream) / 9 dB (upstream)
Output power: 21 dBm (downstream) / 12 dBm (upstream)
These don't mean a thing to me except that the noise margin upstream looks totally out of order! In fact I would like someone to comment on these in case my line might be at fault.
Maybe I'll wait till broadbandking has a statement from Orange about DLM.
So glad for this site and the people who post info here. I was about to sign up to the 20mb £10 a month deal with Orange and thought I would just check out what people had to say here. I'm really glad i did. Think I'll stick with my 2mb £ 12 a month deal for now. Orange say the most I can expect is 3.5 mb anyway.

With your attenuation you should be getting a sync somewhere around 19meg downstream. Obviously the DLM isn't moving you off of an 8meg profile. It will do eventually. As for the upstream NM I guess there'll be a bug somewhere.
Yes you should be getting more. Your noise margin is still quite high for the speed your are getting indicating your line can be pushed further. Plus like tinytim says, your attenuation is good.

For a tenner a month, you could be up to a 20 meg package with 02 (if you're on an LLU-enabled exchange that is); it's a fantastic service
Still awaiting Orange's statement, will post on here.
Not been on my pc much today but find myself on a 9 meg download speed. Have rebooted my router but no increase at all!
Will try tomorrow late morning.
If I am on the downward slope yet again, I get the feeling that I will not get another manual profile and be like the rest of you, stuck on slow speeds and Orange's response will be to wait for the new DLM!!!!

Well 9 meg aint that bad considering im stuck with this . BT says my line can handle 2.5 megs, orange 0.5 when before I used to get even 1.7mbp/s on old wanadoo (1mb) broadband starter plan
You're a lucky man, BroadbandKing - as we all suffer the 1MEG curse, you get to cruise in the fast lane of the motorway with 9MEG - and even 9MEG is slow for you!
*sigh*
Still, 8 weeks now for me of slow speed - the only thing that has prevented me from getting my MAC code and jumping ship to another supplier (probably o2 (now Sky), as they have UK call centres) is the promise of the DLM fix.
Whilst I trust what BroadbandKing is saying (Orange making a statement, etc), I'm very cynical about this, and wonder if this is just Orange buying more time to stop people leaving. After all, we're told that the DLM fix should be soon, mauybe even this week, but I wonder when they will start moving that date back, and suddenly we are all waiting ANOTHER month for this DLM fix to manifest?
Sorry for my skeptical nature, but when I have the top line of tech support asking me to check my ADSL filters, after 8 weeks, I lose all hope!
