Question or details of problem:
Hello,
As a new customer, I have just received delivery of my livebox. After
setting it up and testing it, it has had to go straight back in the box
as the wireless signal does not reach my top bedrooms!! I have had no
problems with my previous wireless router (a 2wire 2700hgv) which I have
gone straight back to using.
After doing some research, to my annoyance I found I have been sent one
of the much-much older inventel dw4210-wu models. Which has many people
online citing its poor wireless performance.
I signed up to the top home ultra package, and as such would expect your
newest and best hardware sent. Which by consesus seems to be the livebox
v2 or mini livebox, which people have reviewed as having better wireless
capability.
I would appreciate one being sent at the earliest opportunity and
instructions to return this livebox which is useless to me.
Can you check that the livebox that you received is in fact a
Livebox1.1, if this is so,then that is the most up to date Livebox in
use.
The Livebox mini 1.2 has now been taken out of circulation, but both
these liveboxes have the same signal strength.
Please accept my apology for any inconvenience this may cause you.
If you have any further queries then please do not hesitate to get in
contact with us again.
Kind Regards
John

IS THIS CORRECT? I WOULD REALLY PREFER A 1.2 MINI LIVEBOX. AM I BEING FOBBED OFF?
IT SEEMS VERY STRANGE THAT THEY WOULD SPEND A LOT OF MONEY UPGRADING THEIR PRODUCT TO THEN SHELVE IT SO QUICKLY.
I'D APPRECIATE SOME LIGHT SHED IF ANYBODY KNOWS!!!
THANKS
GORDON.
It just might be worth checking whether you have a signal conflict with a neighbour. Try changing the wireless channel on the configuration and wireless menu/save, or better test with inSSIDer a free programme (Google search) which will identify the wireless router signals in the locality and you can find yours stength by comparison and try to choose a channel number is a less congested area preferably 2 numbers away from the strongest signals. My old Livebox gives both a signal into the neighbours house and has a stronger signal than the Netgear router I use for my main (fixed wireless) internet (not because of the Livebox which still going strong after 3 years (-there, I've tempted fate) but the regular faults on the DSLAM at my exchange). If that doesn't work and the wireless signal is switched on I think you can argue it's defective unless you live in a castle or similar, or something else you can identify is blocking the signal.
My Netgear for instance scans by default and chooses a less congested channel, the old Livebox is set by default to channel 1 and guess what channel everyone else uses? My Livebox for instance I've set to channel 7 ( a finger on the other hand!).
Forgot to mention config is via the router homepage http://192.168.1.1 and defaults are both login and password admin but you knew that! Sorry.
thanks for the reply merv - its much appreciated,
all channels were tried, no conflicts. Just not a very good a router!
On another note, just to prove a point - my attenuation went from 63.0db (2wire) up to 65.2db (livebox) and snr from 10.3db (2wire) to 9.2db livebox)
All this led to an immediate 0.3 meg drop in my connection speed just moving to this livebox, which when you live in a village a fair way from the exchange and only get a 2meg connection anyway it is a fair drop!!!
To be honest, the main point of the post is that I felt I was being fobbed off by Orange when I asked for a mini livebox and they said the Livebox mini was out of circulation. I don't believe that they would have dropped the hardware in favour of the previous and much older model.
I think they were just clearing their shelves of old stock, an I am one of the recipients.
I'm just hopefully after some feedback that other people have received livebox minis recently, to verify they are still supplying them.
